The AD of North Gwinnett High School said Facebook and other sites were a topic that the NCAA was interested in in their interview with James.

I agree. Though they might try to make an issue of the hostesses saying "Come to Tennessee" on their page, but I don't know how they could find any of that stuff anyways.

A couple of months ago there was a facebook group for (i think) NC State. They were trying to get a recruit to come to their basketball team. I don't exactly know the resolution, but I believe the NCAA threatened to hit the school with violations if the group was not taken down.

I'm glad for this thread. it would seem this would be the biggest concern for the NCAA. I don't know what they can do to police it, but it's got to be worrisome. What would keep a "hostess" who is a "friend(of a recruit) on myspace" from having private conversations through these networks. A step further, is a line crossed if a coach says to "hostess" "tell Recruit X we say hello and to give us a call soon." Just saying I think the NCAA would like to know how much "action" recruits are getting from these networks and how much, if at all, it plays into their decision making.

How are they going to use social networking sites against someone? Facebook used to be for college students to communicate. Let's get real here the NCAA mind as well get rid of recruiting if they are going to start using social networking sites to get violations out of.

And since when did high schools have AD's?

We had a AD at Bradley Central in Cleveland, Tn

IMO, if they're going to try to bring this into our "review", they might as well start "reviewing" every school.

The NCAA just doesn't know what to do with all of the developing technology and communication they can't track. Sort of like how the SEC this past year attempted to ban fans from taking pictures / blogging / twittering / facebooking about games while they are there. They realized that it's just not possible and the NCAA will have to accept the fact that they can't know everything about every player.

I like how they act like college football is some pristine sport with players who go to class, play football, and adopt kids from Nigeria in their spare time. They need to stop focusing on trying to get teams in trouble and start focusing on helping the kids out there who are making them a ton of money.

This is Bull Stuff. I can be anyone on a networking site. How can you prove someone is really who they say they are......

I think I will become a Bama fan...... :sick:

OK...I can say I am any fan..from any school....any sex and talk to recruits....this is getting way out of hand! :furious3:

I guess I should come clean. I work for the NYT and am writing a follow-up piece. I am using all of your postings as evidence of clear wrong doing at Tennessee. Muahahahaha.
It really woudn't surprise me to see them trolling around Facebook and everywhere else to try and get dirt on folks. The NCAA is one of the worst organizations out there.

Why are they worried about facebook etc when AAU basketball seems to be more trouble then anything the NCAA is going after Tennessee for doing.

'nuff said!!! As for traditional media coverage, nobody cares about Ole Piss or UGA, so they can do 4x UT and NOBODY cares!!! If people didn't care about TN nationwide, everything over the past year wouldn't matter and you wouldn't hear about it! Indirectly, it's a show of respect for TENNESSEE!!!
