all you arm chair guys?

Covid shortened the off season so a true competition at QB could not exists
Maurer had mental health issues in Jan and hamstring issues. Plus he can't read a defense
JT Shrout would've been the only logical choice, but nobody except myself and maybe one other even considered it.
Bailey....again, shortened time so well below normal time for work and never played a down in the SEC vs an all SEC schedule

Pruitt was stuck! What chaney could've done to help was simplified the offense, quicker plays.....then see who rises from that, but it all is a long shot. Mullen has made a heisman contender out of trask of simplicity. why cant chaney?

I would have worked the hell out of the transfer market, with or without a deep QB room. There were viable options that we could have taken. Even if we liked our current guys, I would definitely looked for a change-of-pace option at QB - some sort of TRUE dual-threat.

Above all else, my practices would have gotten a lot simpler. What's crazy is that CHANEY ALREADY DID IT IN 2009 with Crompton. Lean on our big, strong OL to run the ball. Run the ball. Run. The. Ball. And set up the play action. Like in 2009 when Crompton would rollout to one side, he had a short, medium, and long option.

It actually worked, and it could have worked again. Still baffled why we didn't let the OL move other humans, as they were 5000% better at doing than pass pro.

The issues with JG were not unknown or new. This Pruitt's 3rd season, and JG's 3rd as the starter. It doesn't matter what I would have done, because I don't get paid the big bucks. But at the very least he should have spent more time developing backups dating back two years, or secured a workable grad transfer. Letting the QB position stagnate the way this one has is unconscionable.

Find a Qb through either the transfer of juco markets. That’s the obvious answer. And if not, take more than 1 freshman qb a year. Maurer and JT weren’t highly enough ranked to demand they be the only qb in your class.

It’s the single most important position on a team and it’s his responsibility to make sure we have a guy who can play there.

Our starter was in his 5th year and was playing at a 1900 level to close last year, as in we would have been better off if the forward pass was outlawed.

"workable" is the operative term...none of this was new or unknown. You don't miss on 4 QB's over three years unless you are doing something wrong. Development has been an issue all over the field, but was most glaring in the QB room.

You mentioned the JG winning 8 games, which is a stretch...he didn't exactly play lights out in any of those games.

At one time we had 1 scholarship WR available during a 2 week span in fall camp, I'm guessing those 8-10 practices were simplified down.

Couldn't you have just put all of this in your other "in defense of Pruitt's 2-7 record in his 3rd season" thread?

He gave one of the backup QBs 4 starts last season, how much more development did he deserve?

Furthermore, in these situations people act like every other program wasn't going through the same thing. I don't think that "Coaching In The Pandemic" is what he was hired to do, but plenty of other staffs adapted and overcame. Everyone rings the hell out of the adversity bell when there's a lot of winning going on. But the collapse is Covid-19's alone to bear?

Coaching malpractice.....
