And I can totally see why a lot of people are upset, but I don't agree with it. You look at last nights game and see a ton of negatives with little positives to take away from it. People are wanting to fire Butch, they are tired of his realistic approach to his job. Now the offense is regressing and the coaches should play someone else.
To the first point of last nights game, if you thought UT was going to run away with it you are crazy and drink to much Kool aid. Worley played his worst game last night and everybody knows it. The Oline didn't get any push for running the ball and the pass protection was suspect as normal. Things we as fans have known all year, so I don't understand complaining. Two of the last three weeks UT has played two of the top ten defenses in the nation. Alabama couldn't even keep their QB clean while playing Ole Miss and thier Oline is made up of 4 and 5 star upperclassmen. A giant positive is UT defense played extremely well, that is until it got wore down. The truth is UT lacks depth and it shows. Ole Miss rotates 9 guys up front, UT rotates maybe 5. Patience is the only thing we as fans can learn from last nights game.
So people are tired of Butch speaking the truth in his post game speeches, because that is all he is pointing out. The team is young, We played this amount of starters, it's a process. All things most of you are upset about, that he keeps saying. What we have is an honest man that is trying to make people realize what he is dealing with. I know most of you don't agree, but that is what it is. John Gruden himself would be in no better situation, but from what I have read for the past several weeks UT would be better off with a big name coach. Come on people this is a process, to think Dooley didn't leave this team on empty from a talent perspective is ridiculous.
I don't understand how the team is regressing, only showing how bad the Oline play truly is. An Emmit Smith, Barry Sanders hybrid couldn't run through this line. Everyone has talked about it all year, but now the offense is taking steps back. Worley played a terrible game last night and that is why the offense looked so bad. Every QB will play a bad game in their career. Ole Kenny Hill has learned that the hard way. The offense is not regressing it has been the same all year, just different levels of talent to compare it to. Unless UT can find a run game people are going to drop back and make Worley throw into double coverages. As far as starting a new QB, Peterman struggles with the least bit of pressure and Dobbs, from watching last year and practice this year, doesn't seem to have a lot of velocity in his passes. I am a huge Josh Dobbs fan especially living in GA, I rout for these kids to succeed, but he is not ready.
No one is happy with what has transpired this year. No one could of seen the oline would have been this bad. Guys and Gals help is coming and we as a group need to be patient. I hated to see my favorite team get embarrassed last night, but I took a deep breath and moved on. I know eveyone is tired of watching UT loose to SEC opponents, to all of the opponents, but if we can't see the talent shift that is taking place, we are blind to how bad this team used to be. I truly believe Butch is the man for the job and really think this team will show a ton of improvement next year. Stay patient my friends and as always Go Vols!!!!
