So proud of my home state

Government unchecked will invariably draw more power unto itself and never give it up.
Challenge, find ANY government in human history that ever voluntarily gave up a role or shrunk itself without being forced to by an external force. ANY examples
Canada faced a nearly double-digit budget deficit in the 1990s. By instituting deep budget cuts (20% or more within four years), the nation reduced its budget deficit to zero within three years and cut its public debt by one-third within five years. Canada accomplished all this without raising taxes.

Sweden was near financial ruin by 1994. By the late 1990s, however, the country had a balanced budget through a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.

"By instituting deep budget cuts..."

That seems to imply spending is the issue right?

??????????
A deficit is always a result of spending more than bringing in.
Of course spending is an issue.
Sweden used a combination of spending cuts and tax increases.

Where do you suggest we make the cuts. Yes, of course the military budget so I'll give you 30% off of that.

I've long said have across the board cuts with double for the military. I would go with 2% and 4%.....every year until the budget is balanced.
Coupled with some changes in the tax code.

Actual cuts or reductions in increases? Plus 2-4% isn't enough.

Canada has almost zero defense budget because they rely on us for their defense. Same with NATO. Of course Sweden isn’t yet a member of NATO; but they still shelter in the shade of the wings of the Western alliance. Helps immensely to balance your budget if you can slash what would normally be your largest single expenditure

How about reversing Biden’s bribe of paying off college loans using taxpayer funds. And don’t even dare ask what California‘s potential reparations plan is shaping up to look like

You asked for examples (as if there were none), and I gave you two.
You're welcome.
If we let other countries take advantage of us, then that's on us......isn't that a fundamental tenet.

It's a start, and a 2%-4% reduction per year would certainly be enough.

Cuts or reductions in increases?
Let me help: If dept A had a budget of $100 last year a 2% cut would mean they only get $98 this year
If dept A had a budget of $100 last year but planned to increase the budget by 50% but they reduced that by 2% the dept would have $149 to spend.

Why do you hate freedom?

I can't and refuse to speak for OrangeTsar. I don't know HIS motivation, but I know mine. If you look, really look, at the decline and eventual fall of Rome, you will see the sort of "freedom" you appear to condone, was a major part of that fall. They sunk further, and further into debauchery and decadency, and I guess what you'd call intra-sexuality. Even Paul mentions it in the book of Acts and elsewhere. That along with the utter corruption of its political leaders, constant wars, crime, and outright bigotry. The USA is following the path as if it is a blueprint for collapse right now. Cheered on by those who don't realize or care where it's leading. Our motivation, I'm certain is different, greatly so, but for once, I agree with OrangeTsar.

Thanks. Without getting into any religious discussion, I would posit that when an individual primarily identifies their personhood on their choice of who they wish to mate with (I wanted to use a more crass description but this is a family site); that person has began to be defined by their appetites more than their heart or intellect. The more this continues, the less man resembles a rational soul and the more he resembles an animal of the field.
When the first and last thing on your mind each day is your sexual identity (and this goes for heterosexuals just as much), you are missing out on so much of what life entails.
I am sloppy in my description. If you wish a far superior point of view, CS Lewis hits the nail on the head in the Abolition of Man, specifically in the chapter Men without Chests (no; NOT a pun attempt considering the current discussion 😂)

I asked for examples of government voluntarily shrinking its SCOPE AND REACH. Did Canada or Sweden repeal any laws? Shutter any government Departments? Lay off government employees? I appreciate your attempt but I believe you misaprehended the types of examples for which I was seeking. Tell me a government that once regulated or controlled something which they no longer do. Prohibition would be one example in which the US government laid down a power (and they did this under duress of a Constitutional Amendment, not out of a desire to govern less). Have you read or watched Lord of the Rings? Do you understand WHY Gandalf refused the one ring? Power, even when it begins with a desire to do good, eventually decays into something fetid and clawing unless it is actively and constantly pruned back by a vigilant populace acting through honest representatives. I would propose that the US is not operating under a very stellar record in that regard at least since the Great Society years of LBJ. And I am not directing this criticism solely at the Democrats. Republicans routinely and consistently bow down at the alter of power alongside their Democrat partners
