Since it appears CCM is going to be staying with a probably raise and extension, what are the odds that Stokes stays for his senior year????

We need him BADLY next year! He could make some long green, but seems like a good kid and maybe that isn't his only motivation.

I will say 60%-40% in favor of staying with CCM coaching, am I way off???

No idea, it's just according to what Stokes wants. I don't see any way he suddenly becomes much better in the eyes of the NBA with another year here. I believe he's bound for Europe or the NBADL at best whether he leaves this year or next.

I see him staying provided he is not a first round pick. Stokes has said he loves it at UT. I hope he stays another year but he needs to do what is best for him.

He needs to do what is best for him. Period. He can make a lot of money playing in a Euro league. If he needs to do that then more power to him. If he is projected even at the bottom part of the 1st round then he needs to go because that money is guaranteed. If all else fails.....try football.

I do not know what his ceiling is, but if develops as much again as he did in the past year, he will be a top pick next year, IMO.

Stokes got the taste of winning. If I'm reading him right, he'll want another season to get to an elite 8 which just slipped through his fingers.
If he doesn't break into the first round, he'll be back.

He's never going to be a top pick. He could work on his game for 20 years and there will be 30 guys go ahead of him each year. The reason he isn't a top pick has nothing to do with his talent. It's because he's a 6'7" center.

Not saying he can't play in the NBA because he may do that one day.

Stokes made dramatic improvement between his soph. and jr. seasons. I think he will further expand his game if he stays. However, he won't be avaiable for CCM until after our bowl win in early Jan.

I agree with this. I feel Stokes is leaving.

Stokes has been rushed into things since he was 13. The further he stays away from Memphis, the more likely he would stay.

This ^^^

Stokes is a great college basketball player but his game doesn't translate well to the NBA. Coming back for his senior season is not going to drastically improve his draft status, it might hinder it if he see's more double teams like last season.

Martin needs to make a deal with Stokes and let him shoot several mid range jumpers next year. If he can show he has a pull up game, he could go in the first round in 2015.

He's going to need more than jumpers to go in the first round IMO. He's a great player for us, but unless he blows up, I don't see him getting drafted in round 1.

IMO, Jarnell should shed 25ibs and become a power forward, lean and mean. Glad he is/was a Vol.

When I look at NBA potential I look at who he'll guard. Because despite claims to the contrary, serious defense is played in the NBA. It's just that there are scorers that are close to unguardable.

I don't see many favorable match ups for Stokes.

Stokes's best position in the pros is at the power forward position and maybe some small forward depending on matchups.

Needs more than that. His dribbling is not good and he has no mid-range or 3 point game to speak of. NBA players are physical freaks, 6'8 is a SF these days.

Stokes needs a mean streak. Someone needs to slap him around before each game like John Henderson.

Finally, some positive thinking on this board today!

Stokes could be a Charles Barkley/Karl Malone type if he rounds out his game a little; he definitely has the potential to do so. Unfortunately, Europe and the NBDL may be better suited for him to grow as a player. Personally, I think he stays for his senior year though. He seems to enjoy the college life.

Stokes would have to undergo changes unlike any man can create to become like Charles Barkley. Barkley was an amazingly explosive athlete. Really a strange freak to be able move and jump like he could at his weight.

He a couple inches shorter than Malone, less athletic too. But maybe if he worked really really hard on his jumper he could get it to where Malone did.

But there's not 5 players in the NBA now that are as good as Malone was.

One LeBron James maybe?

Has the Malone strength but lacks Barkley's ability to score from anywhere on the floor.
Stokes is smart and we saw the desire to develop a jump shot this season. Add more scoring abilities next season and he could go as a late first rounder.
He stays.
