So much for all of those folks that said...

Florida is ranked 10 in the AP poll. Apparently they are pretty good. Either we beat a good Florida team, meaning we are good. Or they had a bad game, and we are still a terrible team.

Maybe the JH distraction caused us to lose the SC game.

There were so many opportunities to beat SC if the team just found a pulse. The offense barely contributed and the defense was burned by a high schooler. Now I will say if what's being rumored is true about Hurd refusing to play on that down where Carlin fumbled the handoff from Dobbs, then that pivotal turnover is partially on Hurd for being a sore loser.

Just beat Florida and I'll be happy.

Seriously, some of you folks have a memory of about 7 days. As long as Butch can retain our defensive staff and give up input on offense, we have a pretty strong way forward. The coaching turnover can hopefully flip our 2017 class to a respectable level if we make the right moves. We will probably win out and have an outside shot at an SEC East championship.

This is a bad year to be in a coaching search competing (potentially) with the likes of Texas, USC, LSU, and ND.

Go Vols.

Pretty sure what people meant was beat everyone else AND beat Florida. Not sure anyone signed up for trading a Florida win for a USC loss. Seems kinda stupid, but nice try.

Pretty much this.

Also I'm pretty sure most people who said that were assuming that beating Florida meant we win the East. If you changed it to "We beat Florida but still don't make it to Atlanta", I seriously doubt most would still say "Ok, that's cool!"

I'm one of the stupid ones that said it, genius. Why?

Kinda stupid to expect a whole lot from a coach you don't have much confidence in.

Why would any quality coach leave a stable decent situation for a job that you're fired for improving the win totals every season?

Because one thing quality coaches can do is recognize bad coaching.... and good talent. If fired this year, Jones would leave a pretty solid roster for the next guy. In two years based on what seems to be the current trend, the roster could be back to the critical level it was at in 09 or 13.

FWIW, if he wins out.... there's no chance on earth he'll be fired. He should be for so badly underperforming and mismanaging this roster.... but he won't be. Hopefully UT won't be stupid enough to give him or anyone else not named Shoop an extension.

Beating UF was great. But the goal was to take the next step and win at least 10 games and the SEC East. But now that seems out of reach and we appear to be going backwards.

And we're in a situation where it's hard to make a real change, since 8-9 wins is much better than the 5-6 range we were stuck in not long ago. But I think 8-9 wins is going to be our peak most years with Butch. A situation where we're too good to make a HC change but never good enough to really compete for a championship or playoffs.

I am a bit confused here...are you implying that the same people who said "Beat Florida and I'll be happy" are now saying that they are unhappy?

If that is what you mean, I would like just ONE example of who you are referring to here.

Talking about a coaching search is hilarious.

I said beat FLA and UGA and I'll be happy. I still stand by it. I'm not thrilled with what I've seen at times, but overall, I'm not really complaining. I expected the A&M and Bama losses, and was actually pleased with how close we played A$M, considering that we are still missing a couple of all sec players on defense. The SC game sucked, but I am not complaining about the season.
