So it's not a current college coach?

lol

"We're making such a bad hire, we're announcing it after NSD so it doesn't mess up our class. We'll just blame it on the fans."

I mean, how dare we want a guy that has been an Offensive Coordinator in the last 8 years and has at least been coaching something in the last 3.

Stupid illogical fans. Stupid fans with their
ridiculous ceiling. Stupid fans, it's all their fault.

Because once a kid essentially signs his future with UT and finds out this what-the-cat-dragged-in hire is determining their future... we don't think they'll just be rats off
the ship?

Rats off the ship isn't even a good enough comparision. They'd be rats off the sub. Just surfaced long enough for everyone to get off before it sinks itself again.

And it's all our fault, apparently. It's our fault, as fans, for creating one of the coolest damned homefields in CFB history with the Florida game only to have our inept offense
lose. But it's our fault Bajina left UT, I'm
guessing.

Maybe some of you old toads should just go find another log to croak from.

Haha. Nice post. The last sentence really set it off.

Yeah we should just be happy with another Dooley hire. You can be happy all you want. There are some of us who will not be happy about it. Accept that and learn to be okay with it.

When did I say I was happy about it? I'm simply pointing out that we are all going to just have to suck it up and take this one, because DeBord is going to be the hire.
Your only other option is pissing and moaning for the next seven months, despite actually finishing our season on a high note, and landing another top five recruiting class.
Sure, DeBord appears to likely be a total flop of a hire, but I'm tired of being disappointed. This time we actually have reason for hope.
I've been lumped in with the "nega-vols" FAR more than the sunshine-pumpers, but the fact is that we should finally be optimistic about our program and I don't want to let this ruin that.
Remember what Andy Dufresne said, "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Hope for what? The offense to take a step back under Debord?

CBJ said that the "announcement" of his hire won't be until after he finishes his recruiting before NSD.

If that's the case, I would assume it's not a college guy, right?

What OC from another school would not tell his current school he's leaving? Or what OC wouldn't suddenly bolt and start recruiting for TN?

Makes me wonder if it's really DeBord afterall.

Not sure how you make that Leap in logic? It would make more sense that it is actually a college guy that didn't want to burn a bridge by wrecking his current school's recruiting class.

Seems to me that Butch wants to lock these kids down with LOI so he's waiting til after signing day to announce. If he is it's a bold move.

Brent Hubbs: "Butch hasn't announced OC hire because he's focused on finishing this recruiting class with less than a week til signing day"

It could be that he is pretty busy at the moment.

Butch is a pretty fart smeller.

GO VOLS!

1. Tennessee's search for an offensive coordinator continues. Head coach Butch Jones said the search is going "exceptionally well." Jones is looking for a replacement for Mike Bajakian, who left to become the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterbacks coach. Jones said a hire could be expected soon after national signing day. Whoever gets the job will have some nice talent to work with, like quarterback Joshua Dobbs and running back Jalen Hurd. Michigan's Mike DeBord is among those who have been reportedly linked to the job

Man Debord must be like the worst OC choice ever. If we hadn't had to live through Clawson would we even care? We are running the same offense people! It will be okay!

I was kind of hoping it would improve from 83rd total and 65th scoring in the country myself :)

Here it is

Superbowl is Sunday

Peyton wont announce his retirement until after the Superbowl because he's a classy guy and doesn't want it overshadowing the Superbowl

Thats why Jones hasnt announced and likely wont announce until after NSD

Now, have fun with this

Finishing the season on a high note is admirable, but let's not forget we only went 7-5 with a rather underwhelming offense through most of the season. A great hire here and I would absolutely be hopeful about the near and long term future, an uninspiring buddy hire like DeBorg and I will be neither. I love Butch but so far the only thing he has excelled at is recruiting.

The only way we lose recruits is if they read these type of negative posts and realize that the fans don't trust CJ to make a decision they do not like!!

Yikes! You listen to a lot of The Cure, don't you?

Just do a search for Bajakian's name on VN. Folks were calling for his head all season. Still, we managed to improve as an offense and find a way to blow out our bowl opponent.
DeBord is no Mike Norvell, but I still believe our offense looks good next year. If for no other reason, Hurd and Kamara in the same backfield will be hell on a defense. Especially with a mobile QB.

Step back from the ledge, my friend. It's FAR from ideal with DeBord, but we are still on the upswing as a program.

At this stage, it has not cost us recruits; so Butch does not have rush the process. It also does not hamstring another school (Canada leaving hurts NCSU, etc.). I don't think that means "not a college guy" (De Bord). If anything the luxury of time with a top 5 class booked makes this process much more effective and the likely outcome more impactful.

Looking at this class, I think Butch has this.👍

This is an interesting chess match. CBJ has the option in hiring an under 40 coach or and over 40 coach. If it is an over 40, then I will trust that Butch thinks an older guy with a lot more experience and wisdom could be a good fit with not only the other coaches, but certainly with the players. So far CBJ has been pretty spot on with the hiring of his staff - so really enjoying all the anxious moments VN is experiencing. GBO!
