It's technically the first round even though everyone still refers to it as play in games. They're in. And will eventually play Duke. Don't forget the high level of D they're playing right now. They actually have a better draw than i would have guessed.

We'll see...

Will be lucky to get by Iowa.

ROFL I'm not trying to be a prick but do people actually question if were in the tournament? Its not called the FIRST ROUND for nothing. In the old format, the NCAA use to put the two lowest conference champions in a "play in" game and the winner made the tournament. So you had conference winners left out of the tournament...that's not the case now for the play in game. Our play in game has the same consequence as a 16 / 1 or a 8/9 game (loser goes home....winner advances) so why on earth does our "play in game" mean less? We get revenue and center stage while no one else is playing...

The confusing part for me is if we're good enough to be an 11 seed, meaning they obviously think we're better than 20 other teams, why do we have a play in game? I understand some of those 20 lesser seeds are conference tourney winners and have to be in even though they suck, but not that many surely.

That's exactly it. Those teams play weak schedules and would get destroyed with some of the power conference schedules. They get the opportunity to be in the tournament but aren't rewarded because they didn't play anyone.

Actually all 20 of the teams ranked #48-68 are tourney winners. We're in the bottom 4 at large teams.

They are not in dude

They have to win to be in.

let's not act stupid!

Last time I checked... If they win out.. They win a national championship... Can't be said for SMU or any other team who is not "playing in" the tourney.... Seems like they are "in" to me

What difference does it really make regarding the play-in game or being an 11 seed without a play-in game? Why would you feel any better about it? Does anyone remember the 11 seeds that lost? NO!

Winning is the only thing that matters this time of the year.

Playing on Wednesday and squeaking into the dance is disappointing, you're right.

(In my best Jake Taylor voice)

Well then I guess there's only one thing left to do.

What's that?

Win the whole ****ing thing.

Doing purely basic math, according to that list we are an 11 seed, while Iowa is a 12 seed. Not that it matters as we shall see Wednesday night.

:good!:

They need a picture of Susan Martin and peel pieces off of it....we maybe not although she wasn't bad looking when I took her Latin class back in the early '90's.

I actually think the play-in is a good thing in UT's case. If they get by Iowa, they'll beat Umass.

This thread is hilarious.

My thing is, if we lose to Iowa, I'll be upset that this team with endless potential couldn't do any better than a play-in game. We are IN, but we were one of the last four in, which is disappointing.

But, I gotta say, if this team plays like they've played the last 5 games, I think they make it to Duke, and may even win that game. In which case, I'll lay off Cuonzo, as he will have definitely earned another year in my book.

If they are on the board...They are IN the tournament...The legions of the miserable just are never happy.

it still doesn't make sense to punish a potential 11 seed into having to play an extra round when there are 5 seeds below them that did less.

Go look at the the "last 4 in" teams. They are most likely from one of the bigger conferences. Big conferences usually bottom out at the 12 seed range. Seeds 13-16 are usually for the lower ranked conferences.

You're fooling yourself if you think barely slipping into the tournament by the thinnest of margins and having to play an extra round is really "making the tournament." If you make the round of 64, you've earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. No matter how the NCAA phrases the rounds, this is most definitely a play-in game.
