So I see Shaq

He should probably go to the Nets right? At least that would be noble...

Uh, wouldn't you go to the best team possible?

Well, that too, but he went to the Cavs under the pretense of "Gettin a rang for tha Kang."

Here's what it looks like to me.

Both of his former teams declined.

Boston has taken notice that they are older, prone to getting banged up, and not as fast as the were a few years ago. They're post season contenders, but not what they were.

Shaq is looking for the $, and a ring would be nice too, but he knows he's in the twilight of his NBA carreer and is willing to go to whoever will take him.

Boston gets to sell jerseys and get butts in the seats (not that has been an issue, but, surely they recognize whats going on in Miami and Orlando). They should recognize that their run is close to being over.

Shaq gets a check, gets to play with some HOFers, and is allowed to have awesome press conferences.

Its win/win.

Still, I find it sad that some guys cant bow out when its their time. See Emmitt Smith in a Cards jersey for an example.

"Can you dig it?"

my guess is that he's chasing cash.

He's playing for the minimum...he might have been able to get a sign-and-trade to a worse team for more money.

Plus he's made like 291 million dollars to this point...more money than anyone in NBA history...I think he's chasing Kobe's ring count

They made the Finals literally two months ago...

It's not like he's demanding to start...he's accepting (so far, at least) a diminished role on a very good team. What else should a veteran do? He's not Dwight Howard, but he's certainly a better option than Brian Scalabrine...

Not sure he really needs that 1.2 million.

I think the OP is right about chasing a ring, not sure what is sad about it though, that is what it is supposed to be about, winning titles, no?

I've been a big fan of Shaq. That said, he really needs to give it up. He can do really well as an entertainer on basketball or take a role similar to what Barkley does on TNT.

and so it begins.

Now Shaq has challenged Jim Rome to a boxing match at ESPN studios for his comments he made about him signing with the Celtics.

Seems to me Shaq is actually chasing the cash due to the fact he has gotten divorced, has a bunch of kids and his ex wants to be paid. Check out how that divorce thing worked out for Lorenzen Wright.
