So do you feel more or less confident of our new HC after Bama's win?

He’s worked for Saban at Bama cepting 3 seasons since Saban’s first season at Bama, and never coached a down on defense or recruited a player. Pretty sobering facts.

Who jas said he never coached a down or recruitied a player?

They had the talent BEFORE he “got there”. He’s been there, save 3 seasons, since 2007. Now we need to find out who recruited for him at FSU and UGA.

Meaning pruitt is not the single factor of why alabama has so much talent and why their defense is so good. Sure he played a part and recruited some of the players. But lets not act like saban being the head coach doesnt play a role in recruiting.

Same unless he's bringing Bama's players with him.

Sooooo. Those players decided what position to put themselves in and made all the adjustments on there own??? If that is the case they didn’t need CJP there at all. Is that what you are saying?

Who has? Did he play a role in FSU’s championship defense and the recruitment of many of those salty UGA defenders last night, dating from Pruitt’s time in Athens.

No, and not to speak for him, just to say those players are really really.... Really good players.

I think that's the thing... He had a fairly big role in building both the rosters on the field last night.

You really can't ignore that, can you? Dude can 'cruit.

No change. He is obviously great at what he does as DC. Now he has to do it with our players as the HC. Time will tell. I bet he is about to be shocked at what our players have been doing with regard to S&C and also how they were being developed.

Umm...nope. I already knew JP was a really good dc. One more game wouldn't have changed my opinion either way. However, I would be much more confident if he brought Bama's elite roster with him, which is completely unrealistic. I was kidding.

Are you so easily swayed that one game out of a coach's career could change your opinion on a coach's ability?

The topic of this thread is how alabamas win effects our confidence. Alabamas win has zero to do with Tennessee. Pruitt seems to be a solid coach and recruiter and maybe he comes here and does well, as i have said many times. But crowming him the king of Alabama and that its all going to somehow translate to success at Tennessee is stupid. Alabama was good before him and they will be good after he leaves.

More confident but the Negavols cannot expect Rome to be built in one season. I feel we have a no nonsense HC who given time to establish his team with great recruiting classes will get the Vols playing competitive championship football.

Oh cut the overused cliches. The expectation is not to make the playoff this year. However, we still have better depth on campus that overall beats what Dooley left.

Now, the job is to coach those guys up. And if the final incoming pieces can mesh with the returning talent, the possibility of a bowl game is not unreasonable. Not a New Years six bowl, but this might be a season to hope for a trip to go to Memphis, and put a liberty bowl trophy in the case. It might be a tough goal right now, but I don't feel a championship caliber staff wants to just improve from 4-8. Making a bowl should be a reachable goal at Tennessee every year.

Agreed. I'm very excited and optimistic about cjp..... But you're correct.

And no one should forget that what bama has done the last decade is just ridiculous... No one should be able to do what they've done... So using that as a baseline to compare with, as a measure of success, is probably fruitless.

40% of what they've done the last 10 years equates to 2 national titles, 4 bcs/playoff games, and 2 conference titles. Or something along those lines...

No one’s gone all silly like your post. He’s a great teacher and recruiter and it translates. HC is the next step up and we’ll see how that evolves but no one is overreacting if they’re feeling confident.

Alabama is Saban. He loses more assistants than any coach in the nation and they are still at the top. Lose your OC, DC, top recruiter etc etc. Still win the title, still sign top classes.

It's like Belichick and his assistants. They move on, New England remains dominant.

Is Pruitt one of the Saban disasters, one of the Saban mediocres, or one of the Saban elites, we'll know in a few years and frankly this job shouldn't be one where we're having to find that out. But because the administration is an absolute cluster, here we are.

Yes, no, or the same/no change in opinion?

Same. He’s a proven assistant with multiple titles and his side of the ball always looks solid. However, he’s unproven as the HC.

Here’s hoping he’s the chosen one to dethrone Saban and start his own dynasty.

I feel neither more nor less confident in CJP. The success at Bama is all Saban's. Pruitt now has to try and emulate that at a school that isn't stocked with 5 star talent and has been severely negatively affected by a former incompetent head coach.

Good damn luck to him.
Counting Pruitt, Tennessee’s new coaching staff has 22 division titles as coaches. So all in all, Pruitt and his staff are bringing 10 national titles, 14 conference championships, and 22 division crowns to Knoxville this upcoming season. And that doesn’t include titles won by some of these coaches when they were players.
From RTI something to think about...
