....Saban's "my system's so good any two doofuses, one season each, can be the coordinators and I win" theory?

Clearly Venables, a marquee coordinator (perhaps the best one extant) beat the crap out of the Tide offense, and whoever that chump with the Slingblade haircut pretending to be Saban's DC didn't stand a chance. If Swinney had ordered it, Clemson could have scored 65.

Did every good coordinators' stock just go up significantly last night?

Clemson could match them up front and weren't afraid of them. They whipped mighty Bama in the trenches. Few teams have. The plug and play Bama deal may have caught up to them or maybe it was just time.. What goes up must eventually go down. No tears will be shed if that was the end of Bubba's run. Most are quite sick of it actually. No one will match that 10-12 year run maybe ever. They can chew on that for a while.

and notwithstanding the quality of the repective coordinators, the constant switching and replacement has to kill any long term relationships. It supports what many of us here on Volnation say about STABILITY. You can't just rip and replace staff, you have to let them put down some roots. FWIW, I think the long term trio of Fulmer, Cutcliffe, and Chavis and the multi year stability was a big contributor to 1998

I will bet you that the bubbas would have liked to have had Pruitt back last night. They were simply unable to stop the tigers. Made my heart feel all warm and fuzzy.
No doubt. I think there's a cumulative effect of having turnstiles for coordinators every year, with the thought being you can just plug-and-play. There were many areas I thought Clemson out schemed Bama yesterday on both sides of the ball. They were matched in talent, but out coached...and am sure Saban's going to be pure hell on his staff in off season.

I agree. It was stated many times last night that a couple of their players chose Clemson for their family atmosphere. They mentioned Ross picked Clemson over home state Bama because of the constant coaching turnover on their staff. Each kid is different, but I do believe stability and creating relationships always helps.

I had a thought, as I watch the game last night, confirming my strongest beliefs for the success of any sports program is continuity of staff. It seems to me after great success, most programs start losing their position coaches (rightly so). Clem and their defense coach are a good example of what I am saying. Also, Bama's demise in this game is also an example, their game plan on both sides of the ball was an embarrassment. The best players on any two teams in the country were on the field. When players are "equal" look at the staff to see which team wins and which team loses...

I told a friend of mine last night. Everyone just saw what letting good coordinators leave and how first year coordinators can't handle the pressure (their official OC was still there but on his way out). Their DC looked lost all night. I think Saban realized what was going to happen at the end of the first quarter and truly saw no way to fix it. I have never seen him look like that. He flat got out coached......had the better team arguably, just got out coached.

Poor decision on the fake FG. Other than that...........he wasn't the one getting beat on the OL and didn't throw 2 horrible int's. He wasn't playing on the DL getting pushed back.
The players got beat....It's not always the coach's fault.

Saban’s coaching carousel, aka the halfway house for rehabbing coaches, finally fell off its track last night. Tua looked off and the defense couldn’t stop Clemson. The best part was watching butch look crestfallen on the sidelines while Trevor Lawrence and their offense played lights out. So ironic and I loved every minute of it.

If Bama football were a person, you could say they suffered a major life altering heart attack or stroke last night.
They might come back 100% with rehabilitation or they might not!
I say they will not!

Volnation, study that game. That is what you get with coaching!

Man I don't want to be that guy but Bama still went 14-1 and played for the NCship. I too am glad we have Pruitt and yeah I think he probably could have made a difference but if Bama and Clemson lined up 10 times and played its hard for me to believe it wouldn't end 5-5. Last night Clemson was sharp at every position, quicker, faster, stronger, and smarter too. And NS got outcoached by a mile as well. Alabama and Georgia kinda let the SEC down. But at least they were playing after December.
