So, based on the O & W game, who is our starting QB?

I am totally confused on the whole situation. I think BJ might be the best but in some way I want the sr qb to step up and play but Crompton has not been anywhere near even decent since his freshman year when he knew he was not going to start and had no pressure.
After watching the game Saturday a few times I actually thought that the race was wide open, they all did a few things right and a few things wrong.....
I think we are going to be VERY heavy on run and short quick passes next year.

We'd be better off with this guy

I would not be surprised to see all 3 QB's against WKU. And then probably two against UCLA.

Live fire job auditions.

Go Vols.

The fans booed like crazy last year and we still got a top 10 class and the #1 player in the nation...

The reason we had this class had nothing and I mean nothing to do with cheers or boos...It had to do with the new regime period...Kiff still has to produce on the field to get the kids to come here...In time we will see but the boos had absolutely nothing to do with them coming here nor did it deter anyone!

I agree 100%. That was the point I was trying to make as well...

I was at the game; I was very impressed with BJ. His mechanics were superior. He was very smooth dropping back in the pocket, his throwing motion was flawless, and his command of the team was superior. He does some things without even thinking.

Late in the game, on about the 20, he was rolling to his right, while working through his progressions. He was holding the football to his front when a defender broke free and applied pressure. BJ never stopped making his reads. He just moved the football behind him (to put his body between the defender and the football). He quickly side-stepped the defender and completed a pass for a TD. It was just unbelievable.

If you were going just on ability, BJ would be the starter. But if that happens, CLK will have problems recruiting a big name QB in the 2010 class. Based on this alone, look for Jon to start.

This whole "Kiffin is starting a senior for recruiting" is, IMO, a complete and total lie. That would mean that Kiffin is basically giving up on this season and just looking ahead. That is not the case. The best players will play. Period.

it was nice but he side-stepped a defender who was not allowed to hit him

I agree and hope your right, otherwise red flags go up for Kiffin.

Starting Jon doesn't mean the CLK is giving up on the season. How in the H** can you conclude that? Although BJ is better in the fundamentals, he has not positioned himself as a difference maker. This team can win with Jon starting. In this scenario, if you don't thing that recruiting will be a factor in selecting the starter, you are delusional.

If Crompton turns out to bounce back, then great. But I will be furious if there is a delayed decision to go with Coleman bc we want a senior qb to make way for recruiting.

In september-october, I don't give a CRAP about signing day.

If Kiffin concludes that Coleman is the better QB and chooses to bench him for recruiting, he is giving up on this season. If he plays someone worse now because he thinks it will end up better in 2010, he is giving up on this season. He will not do that. If he sees Coleman as the better QB, he will start Coleman. Right now, Crompton seems to be the better QB. Our QB race should not and likely does not have anything to do with recruiting a QB for next year. Kiffin would never put himself in a position where he is absolutely counting on a recruit-to-be-named-later.

EVERYTHING the top BCS coaches do right now concerning player mgt is done with recruiting in mind.

Long before I saw anyone else making the point... I said that BJ would have to clearly be the best to win the job. Being equal or even just a little better won't be enough.

If he's clearly the best then of course he starts. If he shows enough to be the QB of the future then he might start. It seems fairly obvious that he hasn't done that for the only person whose opinion will ultimately count... Kiffin.

Kiffin was down here in Chattanooga yesterday along with Coach Pearl and the rest of the "Big Orange Caravan". And the guys on WGOW Sport Talk had him on and they asked him about the QB situation after the Orange and White game. And his reply was something along the lines of "That is not the same BJ Coleman we see in practice. But he has had two really good Saturdays (scrimmages) this Spring. So maybe he's just a gamer."

I don't know about you guys, but I would rather have a "gamer", or a guy who at least manages the game well enough and competes to give us the best chance to win, then a guy who is an All-Star on Haslam Field.

That scenario is based on the conclusion that each QB gives us the same chance to win. If we would win about the same number of games no matter who is at QB then he would start Crompton for recruiting purposes. Normally if you have QBs that are on an equal level you go ahead and start the younger QB if he has room to grow and develop. But I dont think Kiffin would do that because he does not believe we have a QB on the roster that can lead us to the kind of success he has in mind, championships. Therefore, if all things are equal, he is not going to try to groom Coleman, but instead he would start Crompton in order to give us a better shot at a top-flight QB in this class. The type of QB that he feels can come in and lead us to a championship level. That is the scenario. But if he thinks Coleman gives us a better shot at winning games then he would go with Coleman. Kiffin is a competitior.

This sums it up. Also Crompton has a way better arm than BJ and NS looks to be a non-factor in the QB race.
