But it takes away the orange, which is the point. A wise man once said (paraphrased again) that every game is SOMEONE'S first game. Why take away something special of the typical game day? I grew up listening and watching the Vols on the radio and tv. I finally went to my first game and the things that stand out to me are all the things that make UT special: the Pride, Vol Walk, and most importantly the sea of Orange. Why deprive someone of that in their first or only experience there? If I wasn't able to go as much as I can, I don't want my one time to be gimmicky.
You are speaking solely from your own perspective. I would put the odds of someone being disappointed at seeing grey unis at their first home experience at literally, 1/1000. Most people don't really care. They come to watch the game, and the result of the game will be their most vivid memory.
I don't fondly reflect on my first game in Neyland at the age of 8 and think, 'Dang those are some sharp unis we're sportin", as Vandy is whipping our rear ends. I remember staying through halftime and watching us storm back to beat them 38-36.
