I have been asked to pole our fan base for predictions.
CJP just said they are still waiting to hear any day now from the NCAA concerning Solomon’s eligibility this season.
CJP also said that Smith is practicing with the first team OL but doing no contact work.

So, what say you VolNation, will either and or both play in the opener?

Our luck with the NCAA Solomon will receive his letter clearing him to play after the UAB game

You forgot..

"I don't know"

It really is messed up that Solomon hast heard either way yet. That's just crazy IMO.

Smith? All I can say is Pruitt seems to think alot of Trey and his family and wish the very best for him and them, whatever that might be.

I can't help but feel that Solomon will be denied, because we aren't Ohio freakin' State. If he were transferring to Michigan from UT, no problem. Gibbs is already a no. Trey will try. I pray for his health and safety. So, no Solomon, no Gibbs, and Trey all season long will translate into 7-5, I think. Best case, 8-4. Solomon and Gibbs could've pushed that +1. Screw the NCAA and their biased rules. Our only fault is being The University of Tennessee. I pray that Pruitt hangs around long enough, to piss all over them!

Neither. If Solomon was going to be cleared, we would know by now. And if Smith was going to be medically cleared? Same notation.

Freak, this isn't a recent trend for the NCAA. They've spent decades having one set of rules for the elite while having another set for everyone else.

Alabama just broke another NCAA rule so that's another year of probation for Mizzou...

Classic!

Need to add an option for "either and both."

I'll come down off my peddle stool now.

I'm just speculating... But I don't think UT ever even turned in the request until a few weeks ago.

If I recall, Pruitt said he hadn't submitted an appeal yet in the Spring.

I think the "fingers crossed" tweet from Solomon a few weeks ago was probably when they first submitted the immediate eligibility request.

Why would they wait so long? I have no idea. But it would explain why it's taking so long and why no one at UT seems surprised it is taking so long.

I saw it speculated that this was strategic by Fulmer.
They fully expected to lose with Gibbs, so it was submitted first.
They hoped the NCAA wouldn’t then rule against us twice with Solomon.

Great points...

But two counterpoints:

If Solomon wasn't going to be cleared, we would know by now. And it Trey Smith couldn't play, we would know by now.

What a conundrum.

Probably neither. Not very encouraged by the compliance department. Fields at tOsu and others were announced eligible back in May...and according to Pruitt we had not even filed our waivers at that point. Great plan. Wait until after the NCAA says it is tightening up their restrictions to file, and then wonder why we are denied?

Can we not be proactive here? Practice has started and the players who will be running with the first team need all of the reps together they can get, and we have just sat on our hands the entire damn summer. What is the deal? This is so Tennessee
