Oberlin College in Ohio will have to pay a nearby bakery more than $11 million in damages because it libeled the store, tagging it as racist, and interfered with its business, a jury said on Friday.

Gibson's Bakery came under fire after Allyn Gibson, the owners' son, got into a physical altercation with a black student who reportedly tried shoplifting and using a fake ID at the store, The Chronicle-Telegram said. Two other black students got involved, appearing to prompt accusations of racial profiling.


The three students eventually pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and read statements defending Allyn Gibson's right to detain them. They also read statements claiming that his actions weren't racially motivated, but within days of the incident, students were turning out for protests fueled by accusations of racist intent.

The jury found the school and Oberlin's vice president and dean of students, Meredith Raimondo, guilty of libel after Raimondo allegedly helped pass out flyers claiming that the bakery was "racist" and had a history of "racial profiling and discrimination."

The jury also found that the college (not Raimondo) was guilty of intentional infliction of emotional distress for the owner, David Gibson, as well as libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress on his son.

Judge hits Oberlin with $6.5M in attorney's fees after college loses libel case

A judge has awarded about $6.5 million in attorney’s fees and court costs to Gibson’s Bakery, the family-owned Ohio doughnut shop that won a $25 million judgment against Oberlin College over protests accusing the business of racism.

Lorain County Judge John Miraldi made the ruling on fees Wednesday, bringing the total award against Oberlin to nearly $32 million. Oberlin attorneys have indicated that they plan to appeal, according to the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram.

Last month, Gibson’s Bakery won a $44 million jury verdict for libel and wrongful business interference over Oberlin’s involvement in student protests that labeled the bakery racist after three black students were arrested for shoplifting in November 2016.

The $44 million judgment was later reduced to $25 million under Ohio’s tort-cap law, but the enormous award has fueled a debate over the responsibility of colleges in protecting student free speech versus promoting an overheated social-justice protest narrative.

NBC News reported that on Tuesday, the city council adopted a first reading of a new ordinance which removes “gender preference language” from Berkeley’s municipal code. NBC also reported that city council member Rigel Robinson, the youngest member of the council, orchestrated the new ordinance.

“It is Berkeley being Berkeley, and what that means is it’s Berkeley being inclusive,” Robinson told the outlet’s bay-area affiliate. "A male-centric municipal code doesn’t reflect the reality of the city of Berkeley."

The full list of changed words is reminiscent of the decades-old move to change words that typically end in “-man” to ending with “-person,” such as “salesperson” instead of “salesman.” But the Berkeley list goes further, changing words in a way that would make a Gender Studies professor proud.

Instead of “manhole,” city code must now say “maintenance hole.” Instead of “brother” or “sister,” city code must now say “sibling.” Instead of “manpower,” city code must now say either “human effort” or “workforce.”

City code will no longer say “manmade,” either. It must now be replaced with “human-made,” “artificial,” “manufactured” (wait a minute – MANufactured?), “machine made,” or “synthetic.”

Some of the word changes stretch into the odd. For example, the word “master” must be replaced with one of the following: “captain,” “skipper,” “pilot,” “safety officer,” or “central.” The word “ombudsman” must be replaced with “ombuds” or “investigative official.”

And some of the changes are ridiculously burdensome. “Male” and “female” becomes “people of different genders.” “Men or women” become “a single gender.” Those offering the defense, “The masculine pronoun includes the feminine,” must now say “words referring to a specific gender may be extended to any other gender.”

And in all instances where one may be tempted to use a masculine or feminine pronoun, they must use the person’s title relating to municipal documentation, such as “the attorney,” “the candidate” and — I kid you not — “the dancer.” “The Doctor” is not included on the list, but “The Felon” is. Any time a pronoun must be used, the words “they” or “them” should replace “she,” “he,” “him,” “her,” etc.

The guide contains a number of bizarre conclusions about language. For example, it advises students against using the label “straight” as a synonym for heterosexual because it allegedly implies that those who are not straight are instead “not normal” or “crooked.”

Despite the attempt to manipulate the language chosen by students, the university ironically claims in their “Inclusive Language Guide” that their aim is not to embolden political correctness.

I disagree. I believe it's a planned decay of moderate culture. The stupid ones are the sheep that allow a relative few activists to set the cultural agenda for everyone else. If the moderate majority would refuse to send their kids to these indoctrination camps, and would stop financially supporting the media (not just news; pop culture) machine, this **** shrivel up and disappear from starvation.
