I'm not sure how to find comparative numbers for other schools, but it seems to me that UT has had an inordinate number of surgeries since the 2001/2002 offseason.

Could be part of the game getting more physical, or it could be that Johnny Long and company were not strengthening the right parts.

that got me thinking, wasn't there a pro player who said cut the tip of his finger off so he could play the rest of the year ?
Ronnie Lott ?

I believe that was Ronnie Lott....seems like he broke his finger and they wanted to do surgery to fix it, but he would miss several weeks if they did, so he had them amputate it instead. That happened to someone else recently on the college level, but I don't know who it was.

Congratulations to Montario Hardesty for not being on the surgery list. Here's to a breakout senior season.

haha....and it could be very true on what eric said about not stregthening the right parts. (example. bench press on stregthens the front part of the sholder, leaving the back side exposed)

I'm going to assume that Johnny Long, a professional strength and conditioning coach at a D-1 school in the SEC was probably aware of what muscle groups each workout emphasized....

You might be assuming too much.

maybe but there's only so much you can do for a knee. I would guess a high % of pro football players have had their knees scoped in their careers (although I have no source on that whatsoever)

All the injuries are probably cumulative throughout the season. Most of the guys played even though they had them.

There was a college guy that did it at some smaller college this season.

I'd venture to guess you were right.

when i googled it i found that it was Ronnie Lott,i couldn't find nothing on Hacksaw doing it,found this little tidbit about hacksaw though

7 - GO WITH THE FLOW

In Super Bowl XVI, 49ers linebacker Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds (below) did exactly that at the Pontiac Silverdome - during the game. "He didn't have time to go into the locker room to go to the bathroom, so they just had the team circle around him," Sabol says. "We had a shot of it. Of course, we would never use it."

got this on the college guy

Mesa State College's Trevor Wikre chose to have his pinkie on his right hand amputated after a severe dislocation during practice Tuesday. The right guard for the Mavericks' offense would have missed the remainder of his senior year football season without the surgery.
