Back in 2004 when Tennessee went into Athens, UGA had just had a massive victory over #13 LSU 45-16. Very similar to yesterday's game. Tennessee was coming off a loss to Auburn that year, so not quite the same but no one was expecting the Vols to win just as is the case now. But win they did, 19-14 and my wife still has her tee shirt commemorating that game. No guarantees of victory by all means, but historically UGA tends to read the headlines and will blow a game just because they werent prepared. If the Vols can play smart, limit mistakes and keep the game close I do believe this is a winnable game.

Still remember that game. The key was we were able to generate pass rush without blitzing all game long, just sending 4. Weirdly I think that will be a big difference maker on Saturday. Ainge was able to take care of the ball and do just enough to win.

Unfornately this dline ain't good enough to get pressure alone. We're gonna have to have some great blitzes called up at key moments.

Not to poke fun but if the game is kept close, that's the definition of a winnable game.

Can the Vols put Bennett under pressure? If we can we may be able to create some turnovers. Need to be able to stop their run game as well. Auburn couldn’t. I think Auburn’s D-line is weak this year. Ours is not great, but should be able to do better against Georgia than Auburn’s did. Offensively I think we’ll be able to run well enough to open up some passing opportunities. If we can average 3-3.5 yards a carry and do it often, we’ll be able to put up some points. Guarantano needs to have a good game. Make smart decisions, including getting out of the pocket when it collapses. Georgia is gonna bring the heat. Bo Nix did not respond well. If JG can make some big passes, and avoid some sacks I like our chances.

Our defense had a lot of guys that got drafted from that 04 squad. Can’t remember all but Gaither, Mahelona, Justin Harrell, Tony McDaniel, Turk Mcbride, Kevin Burnett, Jason Allen, Jonathan Wade, And Parys Harrelson come to mind. Our Defense is not that talented yet. Every single position group will have to bring their A game to beat UGA.

Bennett is not as good as David Greene but it will not matter if our pass rush is non existent.

I went to get a haircut a couple of days after that game (I live in Georgia). The barber and me always went at each other over football in fun. I walked in with a Tennessee shirt on and said "who won?" Some older guy started cussing at me saying Tennessee didn't beat Georgia, that Georgia beat Georgia. I told him the scoreboard said otherwise😂

Our team is going to get hit in the mouth eartly by the dawgs, especially at the line of scrimmage. It's what they did to Auburn. Now if we back off the game is their's. If we wipe the blood from the corners of our mouths and spit a tooth or two out and respond and they have to spit a few teeth out, they're in trouble. I just have the feeling Pruitt wson't let you take the field unless you have some toughness. This will be a very physical game.

I feel like Georgia is the SEC team we've played hardest over the past 7 or 8 years. Or maybe it's just that we've had some luck beating them on last-minute plays after playing them hard all game, whereas our luck against UF and the like...well, silence is golden.

I relish any opportunity to beat up on the Pups (not in the Michael Vick sense, of course). GBO!
