Most on here agree that CBJ has a no visit policy with his commits.

Most on here seem to believe that we have some silent commits. (Berrys, Hendrix, perhaps Mosley)

Would CBJ accept a silent commitment but allow that kid to continue to take visits?????

IMO the answer is no.

The Berrys are the only 2 silents I see as possible since I have seen no evidence they are taking visits.

It was mentioned the other day that we had several silentls 4 I believe per. Doug Matthews.
Blod statement but seemed to be in the know. See Recruitting thread by SI for more info.

Yea I saw that and that's why I started thinking about the no visit rule. Mathews caught grief for mentioning CM would RS before the season started but now he looks like the genius. Perhaps he is spot on again here.

I doudt that there are any silent committments. There may be a player or two who at this point are undecided or are leaning in a different direction but at the last moment will select us though. Example: NuKeese (Florida) Da Rick (Georgia) etc. etc.

Matthews has that kind of personality and I could see where he and Coach Jones might have a pretty good relationship. Matthews has Tennessee history and DD didn't seem to trust anyone. What a control freak.

Coach Fulmer would have probably stated that Matthews was a good Mid state contact. All speculation on my part.

Butch doesn't accept a verbal commit then allow him to take visits. He can accept silent ones, he did it with Booth, while they take visits. He also will keep back up plans for himself just in case it falls through.

I don't really buy into the "silent commitment" talk. Could a kid tell the coaches he wants to be a Vol, but does not want to make it public yet? I guess he could. If I were a coach, of course I keep recruiting as if the kid is not a commitment. IMO all a silent commitment means is a kid is trying to hold a spot. If he wants to call himself a Vol commitment, he needs to tell the world or risk being a recruiting casualty.

Has it been confirmed booth commited, the staff accepted the commitment and then made visits??

Even a verbal commitment doesn't mean much. Recruiting is still a big guessing game until NSD.

It means no visits for CBJ. That's why I ask the question.

IMO you can't take a silent and then allow visits. If that was the case all kids would just silent so they could still have fun on visits

It is a matter of trust....somewhere I missed the No Visit rule. I understand the reason for it but if you have a no visit rule then your silent is not really a silent commit.

Hey Bruin, I've thought about this a bit even before your post. I think they are not silent commits, but more that CBJ won't accept their commitment until they are at a point they are not going to visit anymore. The downside for the recruit is that his spot could be gone by the time he finishes with his visits. As for the Berry twins... I think they are Vols but just seem to be waiting for some reason, don't really get that one. :peace2:

The silent could be requested by the coaching staff so it could be setup for a special weekend or something of that nature. I think Booth was all vol all along but was kept silent by the staff for a reason.

Thanks.

Then certainly that answers my question.

If I am a recruit I never take my commitment public under these stipulations. I keep it silent so I can continue to have fun taking visits

Yep. Free food, see the campuses for the experience.

Also, you can recruit others on their visit there to UT. Just be subtle and say stuff like "this stadium is nice but Neyland is bigger and their cheerleaders are hotter and jump up and down more."

If I'm a HS senior, there's no doubt where I'd play. I'd be a silent commit (at least to myself) from the time I got the offer.

However, it would be fun to go on as many free recruiting trips as I could schedule. When else are you going to get shown the red carpet and get to see some of the greatest venues this sport has to offer? I would wait until at least October to commit to see some really good football.
