Thanks for the info. Much more informative than any explanations I had heard.

Shows why we hit a home run when we got Coach Butch Jones. Don't know when he sleeps because his mind is always in gear.

Glad we got him.

The NCAA should simplify things:
1) All you can have is 85 scholarship players
**That is all the restrictions**

Bureaucrats make everything complicated so they can keep their jobs. Their only job is to write rules and regulations. THAT'S IT. Look at the govt.

Great job, ljeller. Thanks for the info. I have always said that CBJ would try and bring n at least 35 if he could. He used that number several months ago. Back in November, I was thinking January would be a slow month in recruiting because we had 33 recruits and seemed over. However, with 2-3 DTs interested as well as a RB, January is getting real interesting. Let's make 35 or 36 the number!!!!!

Good info, best explanation I've seen. We r getting called cheaters by everyone but idc as long as we see improvement on this team. Kudos to Butch and company. U can bet whoever found the loophole got a fat raise

Basically, since we now know the 3 Juco's can't be exceptions, it is fairly clear. If all 11 high schoolers signed early enough to meet the deadline, we can take 22 more (25-3 Juco's). For any high schoolers who didn't sign before the deadline, he will count against the 25 limit just as all 3 Juco's counted.

So, our max class size is 36 (25 limit + 11 possible exception EE's).
The number comes down 1 for every high school kid who did not sign FAA papers before the exception deadline. So if anyone knows the true number of exceptions EE's, they are the first to know our actual class size.

Wish you would send me some of that bud WHERE I WOULD BE SMART.:)

No problem...I think it's realistic to end up with 35.

Appreciate it. It isn't cheating and it really isn't even a loophole...I should have worded it better. It is actually a bylaw written along with the ability for incoming freshman EEs to sign the FAA early. The NCAA put the rule in the book, but Butch and Co. are the only ones it seems are going to take advantage of it...

That is what I was thinking. 85 scholarships- bottom line. If you wanted to to sign 85 freshman, then more power to you. Just can't sign any the following year unless someone departs. Ha

With all this talk of being able to sign 32-36 players, does anyone know how many new signees we could have (as it now stands) without going over the 85 limit? That is, how many players could we sign to the 2014 class if no other current players left the program?

Thanks!

GBO!

It depends. None of us will know for sure how many we get until fall camp starts. The possibilities of blueshirts and greyshirts leave that number constantly in flux. We can barely figure out the EE situation and they've already enrolled ha.

I don't have a solid answer, but I have an idea. According to a spreadsheet I have been keeping up with for a couple of years, we have 68 scholarship players including those that just enrolled. The confusion for me comes with Swafford, Carter, and Toney, which are included in the 68.

If all three count, we can only sign 17 more (we have 18 commits). If none count, then we can sign 20 more and stay under the 85 limit. That is of course if no one else transfers.

I've been trying to nail down a hard number for this class, but it really comes down to how 1 or 2 or maybe 3 scholarships have been allotted and to which class they will count. It's almost impossible to pin down a specific number.
