Signee DaShaun Barnes released from N.L.O.I.

All returners for UT have been pathetic lately. Heffney has had tons of muffed punts and other special teams miscues. I'd wager he's had more than Taylor. That doesn't mean that either of them can't play their other respective positions. And no, Taylor hasn't played pitifully, he just hasn't played much.

I totally disagree. Taylor as a kick /punt returner, yes he has played very poor.

Which is why he won't be on return duty next season. I fail to see why he can't be a good receiver. Heffney's had his share of special teams screwups and he's a good safety.

To be honest with you, with him screwing up consistently on special teams, it's difficult to have faith in him anywhere else on the field that requires touching the ball. Heffney has screwed up , yes I agree. However Heffney has made interceptions and big hits on the defensive side of the ball to atone for those special team screwups.

Hefney made all kinds of mistakes while playing CB his freshman year. He let Florida get a huge TD against us. I think it was like an 80 yard play because he foolishly tried to make an insane interception instead of keeping with his receiver. He was young, so I wasn't going to write him off. He's turned out to be pretty good.

All I will say is that I hope you guys are right about Taylor this year ! I hope he comes around. As of now there is little faith in him.

I actually don't think Taylor will have a good season, because I think he sees little action. However, I only disagree with writing him off for imaginating some mistakes. I know he's made some, but when I watch the 12 games from 2006, I'll at least have a firm number.

I never look at someone leaving a football program as a positive. In this case I think Slick saw the writing on the wall. Apparently the "New Guys" on campus made an impression. His reaction is the best for both parties. He will get another opportunity to compete for playing time at Tulsa. Tennessee will have fewer problems bringing new players in this fall and fewer gray shirts in January.

Not sure what to make out of Barnes. I read that there were academic questions but nothing beyond that. Anyone know what happened there?

I think this decision was made long before any of the incomming WRs made it to campus for the first session, and likely before signing day. He never played; this isn't at all a loss.

Completely agree with what you are saying. Overall I was pointing out that this decision was best for everyone invloved.
