Signature Moment/Game of 2009

Every season has a moment/game that defines that team. Whether a game they should never lose that sets the tone (um...can anyone say UCLA?) or an upset win that springboards a team to confidence and success (BAMA over Clemson last year). Wondering what your thoughts are about our upcoming season...

My instincts (and my desperate hope) say that the UGA game will be that moment for UT this year. I believe the Vols will rise up in Neyland and upset a Dog team that could go 10-2 or 6-6 with that schedule (potential losses are Ok St., Bama, LSU, UT, UF, and GT). Nothing would make my year like upsetting UGA and listening to all the whining on sports radio in the ATL and amongst the AJC bloggers.

Your thoughts???

I think the UCLA game will set the tone for this year. If we struggle against them, we are going to be in for a long year. If we come out and look pretty solid and pound them, we will see that we are improved over 2008 and have confidence going forward.

UCLA first half. We barely got by in the first half last season...the interception is the only thing that put us ahead at the end of the half. I look for us to play WKU, but not really know if we have improved as a team until we play UCLA. If we come out and simply out physical them, out run them, out think them, out hit them, and put it to them in that first half it will be a significant confidence booster that the team needs to forget about last year. HUGE.

I think the three game stretch of FLA, Ohio and Auburn are critical. Assuming we get hammered by Florida, and we should get beat by 20 or more, how the team reacts against the next two will show what they are made of. If they rebound and destroy Ohio and then beat Auburn, I think they have a great shot at a decent bowl. If they are flat but beat Ohio and don't get it together for Auburn, 5 wins will be a blessing.

Signature game of the year will be the Music City Bowl. Tickets go on sale September 1. Don't procrastinate. I can't wait to see the POTSLB on 2nd Ave in the battle of the bands.

I think the UCLA game would help build unbelievable momentum going into FLorida. If we beat UCLA pretty good and have a great day on Offense then we should have some serious momentum going into Florida...We will be 2-0 and the team will have some confidence that the system is working and this team will play extremely hard against the Gators...Still not saying we would win but if it's a close game it would almost feel like a win inside because that to me would mean we are closing the Gap and we are closing the Gap in a hurry...

Signature win would include: florida, georgia or alabama, and thats it... unless ole miss is still in the top when we play them.

Best shot is georgia, but I'm not convinced it will happen. More likely in my mind, we have a 8-4 / 7-5 type season that, rather being marked by a signature win, will be marked by the fact that we come out with fire, play hard, and bloody up the other team win or lose. I think the legacy of this season will be a season long trend of "Look out, Tennessee is on the way back."

Here's to hoping but my signature moment for 2009 will be J. Crompton completing 90% of his passes in a game...it could happen.

I think the signature moment will be the first time Bryce Brown breaks a long run for a td at Neyland. I think the crowd will go bonkers. All of us will get on here and talk about how excited we are for the future.

Vols favored over UCLA, so that won't be a signature win. Signature win comes after loss at Fla---meaning blowing Ohio out, then beating Auburn. Since Auburn is supposed to be down this year, the first opportunity for a definite signature win will be UGA at Neyland. Both teams will probably have a loss, so it will be very hard fought and intense. Ga is the opportunity to announce that UT is on the way back.

win or lose fla will likely stamp the signature on the season. if we win, enuf said, if we lose, the teams reaction will carry the rest of the season.
