Tennessee played the 2021 season with only 71 scholarship players, well under the maximum 85 allotted by the NCAA, in addition to seven super seniors. Super seniors are players whose eligibility was extended one season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They do not count against the cap of 85 scholarships.
That means Tennessee had 78 active scholarship players, but it had the option to add as many as 14 more players. It’s a scholarship reduction the university likely will present to the NCAA as a self-imposed penalty

Not sure I am going to get too wound up about any calculations provided by the KNS concerning the UT athletic department. They have a really bad 25-year trendline. To be fair I would not pay to read your attached article. I provided them my last dime years ago when they became early leaders in the area of decay in printed sports reporting. Not sure they would have ended up any less relevant, but they expedited their attainment of that station in the industry.

Million dollars is really nothing nowadays for programs. Heck, one million dollars is the price for a house in a lot of places now.
When watching Gilligan’s Island now, I get a chuckle at the idea of the super rich “millionaire”. If they made the show now it would have to be “the billionaire and his wife”

Are they really still in business? Kind of thought there was no local control over the paper anymore. That they just salt in some guys work that still live here. Have I been misled? I am sorry those younger than some of us old farts never got to see how sports journalism was supposed to be handled by guys named Siler, Byrd and West and some of their proteges. You can tell the whole ugly truth with class and without any snarky elements. Balance and truth over agenda is no longer a priority. Most no longer even claim to be journalists and want claim some of those protections while being sports personalities.

If I remember correctly, North Carolina paid much, much more than that for their legal fees, and there was a ton more smoke with their fake classes, fake tests, etc.
I would have thought UT’s expenses would be way more than a million
