I actually listen to the games more than I watch them. We are blessed to have John Wilkerson who calls a baseball game as well as John Ward called football. Yes, as a John Ward devotee who spent many fall Saturday’s on the tailgate of a truck during deer season listening to John Ward…I’m telling you Wilkerson is elite at his craft. I digress.

Will Heflin is great color on the call. I hope he keeps doing it. He has an awesome dry sense of humor that is understated with just awesome timing. Doesn’t talk to just fill dead air and is a perfect match with JW in my opinion. Great player insight. Many thanks to them both for doing what they do! Go Vols and looking forward to tonight’s call.

Me too! I much prefer Will over Vince. He has a much better feel for the game as a former player/pitcher. In fact, he called several pitches that would be a good next pitch accurately... great insight!

Will Heflin will be a media star. His podcasts with Ben McKee and Tony Basilio are excellent as well. He also does a post SEC Series call in show on Basilio on the last day of the Series (typically Sundays but on Saturdays for the Series that start on Thurs).

I have to turn it off when Vince is on. To me, he doesn't have a very good radio voice

For someone who is in their early 40s, who missed a lot of the prime baseball announcers but was still blessed enough to grow up with the entire Braves TV/Radio operation of the 80s and 90s... its a gift to have someone like Wilkerson calling our baseball games. He fits that earlier style that's so relaxed and conversational. Its a genuine gift to us as fans.

Heflin is in 'enjoy him while we've got him' territory with me. Kid is going places. He's going to do really, really good things in media.

I think Zander Sechrist can be the same.

Both guys are super talented in a way that can span demographics.

Will also does a Sunday wrap up show after the final out of the weekend series. You can listen on the Tony Basillio app. I know there’s some here who have rash in their ass over Tony. You need to get over it. Those shows are also archived on YouTube.

I agree 100%. He’s a throwback. I’m not that old, 53. But when I was a kid there many football games not televised or we would be in the woods on fall Saturdays. John Ward had a gift and so does Wilkerson. Somewhere I heard JW explaining how he developed his approach to calling a game. He talked about the guys he listened to as a kid and he even related the specific announcer who used “hello win column” in his broadcast and how he decided to use it to. It was really interesting and I don’t recall if it was on a podcast or maybe on the sports animal. Anyway, John really is a treasure. This is not my first post in this forum singing his praises. I rarely actually watch a game and yet I rarely miss his broadcast. I don’t even want to think about him retiring. I miss John Ward so much.
