Should the SEC expand?

leave the SEC alone

force the big 10 to add a 12th team (Notre Dame) so they have a conference championship game as well.

If Notre Dame doesn't want to join a conference, their BCS eligibility should be forfeit. No team should get the preferential treatment the Domers do.

go to a +1 system to determine National Champion.

The little 11 would turn into the little 12.

I like it!

Basically, Notre Dame would be 0-0 heading into the Championship game?

No, no, no. Notre Dame could play its regular schedule. Their opponents could either be given an exemption to play an extra game against Notre Dame...or everyone else could schedule a I-AA opponent so everyone will have the same number of conference games. It would work out.

And they could call it "God's Conference"...b/c ND condescended to be a member.

I think you guys got off base here. ND should head into the Championship game UNDEFEATED and UNTIED.

That way, if they play a 1-loss SEC champion, and the Irish lose, the AP could still vote to split the national championship since both teams would have only one loss.

Why not just have the championship game be an exhibition game and always have a split champion?

Agree. The split should be automatic for ND, but only the voters would know that in advance.

If the Irish win though, they should be called World champions and play an exhibition against the Super Bowl Champions for the Galatic title.

Notre Dame needs to play some games. They need 4 or 5 months of media overexposure...not just the championship weekend.

Can't they just get that from their practice sessions for the upcoming championship game?

Who would they play?

I posted earlier that I thought their regular schedule would work.

Playing ND is a privilege. It's something you should be able to tell your grandkids about. That shouldn't be limited to just one team every year.

If you're worried about ND not being undefeated entering the championship game, they could just not keep score like they do at some of the kiddie levels.

as if it could get any tougher lets add two up and coming potential powerhouses to already the greatest conference in the nation..

Don't want the West. Keep us in the East with WV

I'm a firm believer that geographical continuity should be a requirement for conferences. The addition of WV wouldn't totally eliminate geographic continuity,...but it would come pretty darn close.

Thus, I don't support it.

You lost me when you selected WV for the SEC over someone like Clemson, who's ACTUALLY in the SE area of the country.

Add Duke instead of WVA. An easy blowout win is better than playing the mountaineers every year.

The last SEC expansion, the powers-that-be wanted Miami and Florida St. Instead, they got Arkansas and South Carolina.

This time, we'd likely see Memphis and Southern Miss.

Knock all of the other schools back to I-AA.

The SEC is I-A. Add USC (who - let's be honest, when Pac 10 fans start talking about "Pac 10" dominance, they really mean USC dominance), Notre Dame (so when they lose to I-AA schools, we can talk about how much they suck), and Louisiana-Monroe (to beat up on Saban).
