whuuuu.... o_O?

i can literally make NOTHING of this thread..

Maybe educate yourself about our obvious kicking woes and check out what we are doing to fix it before you try to make a smart ass comment. Everything he said was possible and relevant to making our team better. I say boot Darr if he doesn't improve dramatically.

Yeah, that would REALLY go over well with the players and future recruits. You can encourage a player to leave by saying that they wont get playing time, but pulling a scholly for performance issues isnt done. Period.

I'm pretty sure those smart ass comments were not due to lack of special teams woes education...Probly because based off the past, flip a coin as to which current kicker we wish we could hand his scholly to. What has palardy done to earn his keep? Granted I don't think any one of them should lose their scholarship but come on bud you can't be serious.

If that were even a possibility we should give it to Matt Wogan from NC, because he out performed Johnathan King, and king screwed the pooch at camp from what I here.

Thank goodness that you have nothing to do with the team.

Purely from what I have seen in person and in the game, I do not understand how Darr got his high rating coming out of high school. They must have been inflating the ball with helium. His kicking is erratic, plus his best kicks are at best passable. Palardy at least has some pop in his leg and he is lefty so it is harder to field. Honestly think the kid is kicking too much and his leg is over used. Put him only at punter and he would be okay.

Darr had five games last year where his long punt was 49 yards or longer - that's better than 'passable' for a single kick, to me. His problem is consistency, not lack of ability to hit a good punt. Problem is the 28 yarders, not that his best ones are poor kicks.

The problem is not the recruits that UT brings in, it is the coaches. Darr was the #1 punter in the nation when he came here. And Parlardy was the the best place kicker in the country. The problem is that the coaching staff does not have the ability to coach the position. Much like the RB position that Dooley totally ignored for his first two years. You have to have someone on the staff that knows something about kicking.

I do not know personally, but have heard from a couple people that the coaches let the kickers go practice by themselves at practice.

I heard they chew bubble gum and play in the sandbox

Yes it is common for certain coaches to pull scholarships for performance issues - you just have to look south to Alabama to find your first example.. So it wouldn't surprise me if we did it to an extent - but Dooley isn't quite the hardass Saban is.

How many pull scholarships from a kid that was just a freshman though?

Darr came in the class with Palardy.

Still a freshman though, since he redshirted. Only kicked here last season. While he didn't have the best season, compared to other first year kickers I would say he was about average. Had 3+ 50 yard kicks and landed 10 inside the 20. Take out a few of his shanks and he had a decent year.

I just think it is a little harsh to boot someone after only kicking one season. I would be all for it with 2 seasons of bad kicking though.

I didn't say he should have it pulled - I was just pointing out that it is common when the poster I quoted said it doesn't happen.

Yes I know, I was asking how common is it for a first year player to have his pulled is all.

They saw him for two years so they know whether or not he at least has the potential to be good - a real first year player would likely never have his scholly pulled barring extreme circumstances.

Maybe he is like Palardy and is a practice All American. Holding out hope lol.
