Windows 8 tablets?

Kind off topic but figured I'd post it in here rather than the pub since a majority here are tech savvy.

I'm not currently a tablet owner.. But I figure I might as well phase out my laptop (possibly still unsure though) since I do all my nerdy stuff on my desktop which I will never phase out.. Atleast not this decade.

I own an iPhone but am pro microsoft for the most part. I would never buy a MacBook or Mac desktop but am open to buying an iPad - but I have no clue how the android tablets compare. But I've also been researching windows 8 - and it seems awesome for tablets at least... Not so much for my desktop. What do you tablet owners recommend? Should I wait? If not what tablets do you recommend?

Since you are an xbox whore, I would suggest you wait a bit on the windows 8 tablets, just for the fact that they will work together on many things

iPad is probably the best tablet out there but it's not without issues. Android tablets on the high end are fine machines, as well. Both can do pretty much the same things. iOS might be easier with your phone and the sync options between two iOS devices.

There's a couple (or more) dual booting Android/Windows tablets coming out. If they perform, that might be the way to go. iTunes will run just fine on Windows and you'll have android and access to their already large market.

Those won't be windows 8 devices though will they? I think Windows 8 has a chance to be really special on tablets at least.

ASUS showed one recently. I think there's another one in development too. ASUS makes very good android tablets so these should be quality machines.

If you just want to run android apps now on a windows machine, you can grab Bluestacks. Supposed to be pretty good but I haven't tested it yet.

Would it be possible to upgrade a windows 7 tablet to windows 8 when it's released like I would on my PC or does a tablet not have that kind of flexibility?

I really wanna use metro.

I have an iPhone and an iPad (and an iMac but we've had that conversation) and the iCloud sync between them is awesome. Take pictures with your phone and they are in your iPad. Use iTunes match and all of your music is accessible from both devices. Reminders, calendars, mail, bookmarks and notifications all in sync with no effort. Many apps use the icloud sync too such as Pages and Keynote (both are compatible with MS Office) Much of that can be synced with Windows PCs too by installing iCloud (photos stream doesn't sync to windows for example).

I'm sure the Xbox smart glass will work best with Windows 8 but they wisely included iOS.

Can't comment on Android tablets as I've not really played with one. From reviews I've read it seems like many of the apps have not been optimized for tablets yet unlike for iOS. that could be old info though.
