am I going to be forced to pay for the smart guy who sells both kidneys?

why would he be dead? Sell them for a large profit and then have the gov't pay for your dialysis and disability. Now it seems like a ridiculous idea but it would be tried by someone

K, say the issue is we want it legalized, but regulated so that you can only sell one of two kidneys. Also you cannot kill yourself in order to sell your heart, but you can have your heart sold if accidental death occurs....

Well, libertarians push for this to be legal, but not nearly as much as those Americans who are on kidney donor wait lists, dying. I'm sure you have some of those people in your state.

what's the principle you are touting? thought it was freedom.

so we can only sell organs to save a life? why that restriction? what if kidneys are tasty and someone wants to munch on some? what if I want to sell them to someone that will study them?

you realize how much regulation would be involved in something like this? I can see being able to designate a recipient upon your death but even that would get crazy

BTW, there's only 1 nation in the world with no Kidney wait list. You'll never guess.

It's Iran...know how they got rid of it? They legalized the market for kidneys.

Well, yes the underlying principle is free choice. The result is fewer toe tags.

Crazier than dying because government has made life-saving measures illegal?

why create a market and be like Iran? Just make organ donation mandatory unless you can cite religious reasons or prove Egyptian heritage

but you are limiting to sell for a particular purpose only - why make that restriction. If it's mine to sell, why can't I sell it for any reason?

trafficking in human organs is a nasty ethical issue. What if you can't pay? Can you get gov't assistance for these organs? If you are on a payment plan but are behind do the organs get repo'd?

you seem to be advocating freedom for a process that would require huge regulations (as you already pointed out)

You should be able to, but this is a more pragmatic approach. I'm making concessions because even with the concessions, people think saving lives in this manner is still too crazy.

It's very bizarre.

If Government paid $90K for my kidney, that'd be cheaper than dialysis over the long run, which government gladly pays for.

I don't think it requires a lot of regulation. You said that. It may get there, because the nature of our beastly government, but a regulated market is better than a black market, IMO.
