Should all coaches get a free pass in 2020 because of Covid 19?

Barring some kind of scandal of course. I think coaches being fired in an unusual year like this is really unfair.

I don't think anything is fair about this year due to fact that teams fall under the same guidelines, but teams are being affected differently. As far as coaches being fired, that should be taken on an individual basis. Muschamp in year 5, has sucked. So if they can afford it and have a candidate in place, pull the trigger.

Muschump had 5 years. They knew he wasn’t going to turn it around. They knew last season this season was make or break for him.

Captain Cornbread is in the middle of year 3. This creates an issue because he still has holdover from the last coach. Unfortunately most of us know he is over his head but I don't think he gets canned. That has nothing to do with covid except the AD doesn’t have the dough.
he will get 4-5 years, mainly to get his guys in there and also so the AD can recover financially.

really? how so? all teams are dealing with the same thing... if you're team is majorly under performing compared to others... then you're not doing something right the others are
All teams are not dealing with the same thing. Covid protocol is by the city or county your school is in. Knoxville has one of the most stringent rules in the country. Other SEC schools like Bama not so much. The thing that hurts is the contact tracing and quarantining that follows. Some places have no restrictions. Knoxville is not one of them. That is one of the things that has hurt Bailey's preparation. He was out and when he was able to return most of the receivers were out. Not an excuse, just facts.

Pruitt doesn’t deserve a pass nor an extension.

Keeping him for too long will end up being a disaster.

The answer is "it depends"

Pruitt has a 3 year track record of not making adjustments, struggling at beginning of halves, having players quit during games, and not having development at QB. For the two positions where the team has the most talent (OL and CB), they have regressed. We haven't been hit any worse than any other team by COVID. Long winded way to say No.

Not that he's a great X/O coach but Coach O has more of a case to get a partial pass. First, he's coming off a Natty (as compared to coming off a season with a loss to GSU). He lost several of his best players to opt outs. Lost a ton of talent, had to replace Brady and his DC. Plus LSU got hit majorly by COVID cases. O deserves a lot of blame for this season but he does get at least a partial pass.

Except.... There’s actually a wide range as far as what the effects have been in different places. Some schools got spring practice in. Others got none of it. Some lost large chunks of preseason practice and some didn’t. Some really got nailed by contact tracing and quarantines. Some didn’t.

Hard to really evaluate where some programs are.

We haven’t had any players out with covid or even symptoms that I know of. Regardless there’s no excuse as to why Tennessee is as bad as they are on both sides of the ball. Good HC can make the tough decisions not hang their hats on hopes and dreams. Tennessee can’t cover over the top or the slants, can’t defend the run consistently etc with two guys that have resumes of doing just that. It’s unfortunate but changes again need to be made.

everyone should be renting at this point.

Seriously? We had practice shutdown and literally could not have fielded a team if the season had started on time. I won’t pretend that I know what the impact truly is with respect to the results on the field. We might still be in the same spot. But there’s no doubt that it created issues.
