In the Chattanooga ties-free press, there is an article about Vols struggle to move the chains..It's talked about the Vols struggle on 3rd and short yardage against Cal..

We did struggle but I think alot of it had to do with play calling..What are everybodys thoughts?

I remember a 3rd and 1 & we passed the ball to side the Lucas Taylor and lost 2 yards..We threw to the side line.
and don't forget the 3rd and 4th down on the 1.

what makes me mad is they could not score on a bad d 4 tries inside the 4 yard line

I think the whole team will play outstanding on Saturday and that will carry on into the Fla game next week. For some reason, I'm not worried about this game like I was Cal.

the short yardage conversions will change for the better. everyone, for the most part, looked a little rusty. I attribute alot of it to Ainge. Cutcliffe calls the play down tot he field, another coach signals the play in to the line of scrimmage, along side three decoys beside the sideline coach, then Ainge turns looks at coverage and then...."oh crap!" Ainge says, "I don't think this will work". So, he audibles and screws it up. Alot of the heat may come on play calling from Cut, but I think Ainge needs to make sure he does not change too many things. All he has control of is choosing 1 of maybe 4 options from a certain play. Every play they have has 4 or maybe even 6 options, he is keeping the same play, but choosing which "go to" valve in within the formation of the offense set. Ainge will get more comfortable in choosing which will be better. We have to go VERTICAL

Fulmer/Cutcliffe don't have confidence they can gain 1 or 2 yds on the ground anymore...
therefore they are forced to try and gimmick their way towards a first down
