We didn't allow a single point the last 38 minutes of game play. I don't care who you're playing, that's impressive. App State executed a great game plan to milk the clock and have a lot of quick throws and screens. I think it will be fun to watch our DE's pin their ears back against an O that doesn't run so much misdirection. They will come out with a chip on their shoulder against VT, I guarantee it. However, Butch Jones and Mike Debord have A LOT of soul-searching to do tonight. If our offense is this vanilla next weekend, we will be in for a long night in Bristol. P.S. If we run the ball out of the shotgun inside the 2 yard line one more time I may have a brain aneurysm. It's mind-boggling to say the least. Just thankful and relieved to survive and advance. We have a ton of adjustments and improvement to make, especially the OL.

I just made this point in another thread. We got better, not worse, as the 4th quarter wore on, and that is a HUGE contrast from last year.

Play calling was good. However, we have got to tackle better. Their running back, COX, was running all over us. There is no reason that should have happened. Example: the touchdown Lamb ran, that was a missed tackle. Those have got to be cleaned up, quickly.

I have cox on my college fantasy teams and unfortunately benched him before the game because I thought we were going to shut him down lol😞

Yeah, I was super impressed with his downhill running, seemed to always fall forward. Probably one of the better backs we will see this year IMO.

I agree. That dude can straight up get it. I was thinking during the game why couldn't we have had a guy like that instead of Marlin Lane or Poole in the offense we had when Bray was at QB.

They did have some good plays late in the game and App St supposedly has a good O Line, but if we don't get better D-line play during the SEC season we will be in trouble.

Like how they stepped up in the second half, but still allowed to many rushing yards. News flash, we play better running teams this season. Figure it out.

That was one of the best running backs we will face this season. He was in the top 15 in preseason running back rankings.

When the 4th leading tackler in the SEC from 2015 gets tossed from a game for BS, that might hurt your tackling. Just a little.

Yeah, I didn't know much about him before the game. But I damn sure do now. Wish we would have recruited that kid.

I have him on my fantasy team and benched him today because I thought there was no way a appy state running back would run all over Tennessee, boy how I regret that decision lol.

He was a good running back, But I mean the whole package. We will face better oline and rushing games overall.

Sutton is the biggest reason we won this game tonight

Aaaaand he was also one of the reasons we were in the mess to begin with. His fumble early on set the tone of the rest of the game. Glad he could make up for it with a pick of his own, but without that fumble I think we go on to win with a little more comfort. Albeit probably still a tougher game then people expected. At least some of us.

He's also one of the biggest reasons this game was close. He fair catches that punt, totally different storyline.

I wouldn't put Sutton down too much. He made a mistake but he's done a lot for UT and he makes the team better plus he made up for it when we really needed him to.

Besides he made a living off of taking last second punts to the house or for good gains last year right as the punt team was about to touch him. He just tried to run before he secured the ball this time. It happens and should've never made enough difference in that game to really worry about.

The D played terrible in the first half. They almost cost us the game.
Defensive backs are still NOT being taught to keep their eye on the ball. AS scored a touchdown on us because of this.
Actually, I was disappointed in every aspect of our game plan and execution.
If this is the best Shoop has to offer, then we are in trouble.
Play calling makes me vomit.

I have reconsidered our defensive performance from the game but i came tothe same disappointment. I am pro Shoop; thought he was extraordinary at Vandy and PSU. The performance last night is a head scratcher. I assume our athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than App State. Is that a wrong assumption? Our defense had similar stats in tackles for loss and in yards allowed per play that the App state defense had. Furthermore, their defense held our running game to fewer yards than we did their rushers. They had 2 sacks while we had none.
Is this the defense everyone expected when Shoop was hired?

No, our front 4 was magically missing. No push up front except Barnett. Kgo, Kmac, did you not suit up? Pretty scary.
