Did you notice?
- We actually rotated
- we pressed the wrs to shortrn the running room on the edge.
- we run blizted from the weakside, which threw off their misdirection
- we defended the option better as the game wore on by filling open space before QB let options develop.

That maybe the first time in years I've seen a UT coordinator make a noticeable adjustment.

The football intelligence is all on one side of the ball.

App State had some good players and playcalling on offense, but once Shoop had a bead on their tendencies, they couldn't do anything.

It was very refreshing to see halftime adjustments.... that's why I'm not panicking about the outcome of the game

I think this OP's post is spot on. also the stop and adjustment taking them out of field goal range may have saved the game for us. Last year, they get a first down, kick the FG, and win in regulation.

Very astute post, LV. This is what Shoop does best. I watched him do it at Vandy, then, Penn State, and now, we have him. By far, Butch's best hire.

Only criticism is he went to "prevent" on that last drive redid staying aggressive

You nailed it, Remy. Thank Bob Shoop for preventing what you, so aptly, described.

No argument there. Kiffin almost single handedly revitalized Jonathan Crompton.. no easy task.

He did do that, when you go from death threats to getting drafted someone did miracle work.

Well shucks, maybe we should stick Bob in there as the O-LINE coordinator, because if we don't do something soon, the Vols will be bleeding more than orange in the backfield.

I am so thankful to have Shop too. If you think about it, he pretty well shut down the scoring from a pretty capable offense for the last 2 and a half quarters. Not many teams this year will hold Apps State to 13 points.

Also, if the wheels do totally ever come off CBJ, I think Shop has clear HC abilities.

Absolutely.... if he's still here.

The next AD will have one clear assignment regarding the football program "DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP BOB SHOOP AT TENNESSEE". If he does that, anything else is revoverable

the Defense did adjust, which was one of the areas Volnation mentioned/complained about several times last year. Not sure why the OL was being bullied, maybe the 5 started are not the best match, the center (Thomas) was a weak point, their LBs were eating his lunch all night......Richardson looked lost, but the best thing..........all of this is fixable.

Go Vols!

It wasn't the missed field goal?

No it wasn't, that was a very sharp angle at that distance. He was kicking from the left hatch mark, making the goal post very skinny.........tough shot for a FRESHMAN, now, remember, Medley had some tough games when he was kicking as a freshman as well. I think the App State coach made a big mistake not going for the 1st down......but that is my arm chair coach coming out........jmo

I actually believe his adjustments are what saved us from a loss

A win is a win.
Here's my issue:
Mike Debord has shown that he can be creative with playcalling. Hes shown he can manage our QBs talent ex: Dobbs amount of designed runs and moving the pocket.

The issue, he knew Shoop's defense had dug in, and Debord got comfortable even though we still needed points.
Because he wants Dobbs to make the defense defend everything.
Thats smart logic, but your QB is hesitant by what he sees (decision making) then everything gets thrown off
Punt!
Momentum back to the opposing team.

What happens when Evan Berry doesn't give us a spark because they kick it out the end zone??

Dobbs has been a spark when he mixes timely passing with his very good running ability.

That's who we are with him. This helps Hurd and Kamara as well.

App State didnt have to defend every player in our backfield.
