Shoop hype ?

Yes and no. Our offense took the game over in the second half after the defense got run over the entire first half. Offense came out second half clicking on all cynlinders, scored 35 straight points and the defense fed off the energy in the third quarter, which was by far their best performance all year, not even close. Got a bit shaky in the 4th, but played well then too, only allowed 80 yards or so and 7 points.

But make no mistake, our offense won this game. They played so well that the defense couldn't lose it, which they surely would have, had the offense not been so dominant.

Hmm, I thought once our defense started dominating then our offense fed of them and started playing well.

Left Twix, Right Twix, complimentary football.

Tale of two halves. 1st half we weren't scoring or stopping them, 2nd half we were scoring and were stopping them.

We will be better at both positions. Reasons being we have better coaching and more talented players.

Thigpen is a great recruiter, but last year proved that there are things to be desired in his coaching.

Im not a fan of Thigpen and his player development either. i was referring more to Warren on the coaching. I think we've got enough talent and bodies at LB to find someone better than JRM.

I actually don't think so. JRM was an amazing linebacker. Kirkland is close.

I know a huge chunk of the starters were out but the team looked very underwhelming in O&W Game.

All I know is that VN despised the Debord hire and was elated with the Shoop hire.
Hey, they both did set records at UT!

So glad our little board of secret coaching geniuses are "not impressed" with most of the recent hires, gives me hope for the future.

Don't forget this board of geniuses also declared Peterman a bust and couldn't play cause he didn't play well at Florida and vs Alabama.

Our record will be worse this year than last year. Book it.

Oline, and QB will be upgraded. the defense cannot be any worse than last year. the only issue I see is Butch jones is still the coach and I don't have any confidence in him as a coach.

The defense won't be the same without Barnett, Sutton, JRM

We didnt really have Sutton or JRM anyway. Or Kahlil. Or Tuttle. Etc.

Most of our injuries were defensive players at key positions. We band aided our problems and made it work until we lost 3 DTs in the back half of our schedule and had to play a freshman at safety.

Saying we didn't really have Sutton and JRM last year misses the point. It actually served as a preview of things to come imo. We were awful without them last year with the guys who replaced them.....the same guys we'll have replacing them this year.

Also, what freshman played at safety? Warrior played a little but here and there, but very little overall. TKJr and Abernathy got the overwhelming majority of snaps at safety all season long.

it'd be hype if he came in w/out ever having done anything before.

and i'm not going to say there's ever a reason to give up the rushing yards we did back half of last season.

but purely from a coaching standpoint, the way we lost players, especially up front, all season long, and it trickled in to every level of the defense, i just think some of you are downplaying the impact that has on a much bigger picture than simply dialing up plays.

you go in to every season, every game with a plan agianst a particular offense, you have a roster that you plan on using, rotatins you plan on using, contingencies based on what you have seen from players in games and in practice. you have a sense of what each of these guys strengths and weaknesses are, who plays and communicates well within whatever personnel packages are called for in a given situation. you have contingencies for injuries or gaps that could need to be filled, if the situation calls for it.

we started the season thin at LB (didn't even list a SAM LB for the opener), and it got really thin, really quick, once JRM and DK jr went down. then you lost some depth with Sapp getting hurt for the season (his position on ST had to be addressed too). McDowell also missed time early on. so you're already in a scheme that's not what you wanted (4-2-5), you lose 4 LB's for various lengths of time early in the season, you have a hodge podge of line ups in the seconary past week 2, and then mid point on, the nail in the coffin hits by way of 3 DL disappearing from the roster all together.

i hate injuries as an excuse. but typically that's the case when you lose a guy or two, and you wnat to play the 'what if' game.

that's not what happened here last year.

heck thru the Alabama game, we only started 2 games with the same line up in the secondary.

that's a lot of personnel shuffling having to be done week to week, and to work out all the communication and personnel packages, sometimes not knowing until later in the week who's available to even play, i think as it all accumilated last year, it was a worst case scenario. especially on the DL. we had guys playing out of position just because of needing bodies.

you don't think all of that affects game planning?

it doesn't exucse the performance we saw. i just think it's too convenient to simply say shoop needs to prove he's not just hype.

a lot of things need to improve so this doesn't happen again, no argument. but the root cause is deeper than just saying "shoop can't coach".

JRM and CB were not big factors last year.

Martin, Kelly, and Moseley will take up the slack and contribute more than Sutton overall. He was hurt too much.

Linebackers will be better as a group than last year. They couldn't be as bad because last year was pathetic. Austin Smith will be all conference level and Bates is much improved and bigger.

Sometimes you don't have to "know" before we know. Sometimes it is evident, thus a "preseason" all-sec and preseason ranking.

You should do some film study lady. Both linebackers mentioned by you as potential all conference haven't played a combined 50 plays in their career.

You trolling son? You saying we will have an upgrade at QB is on it's face ridiculous.
