Yesterday was a firestorm of insults and belittling of Butch Jones. All he was clearly stating (if you actually read or listen to the comments) was about his Senior football players and their contribution to Tennessee's program. What they meant to him personally and it was framed around Senior Day.

In no way did he imply, suggest nor say that their team goals AREN'T to win "football championships". His comments were directly related to his Seniors and his relationship with them as people.

So shame on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville and 102.5 The Game for having an open discussion **** storm and trashing Butch when they were the one's to manipulate what was said and interpreted.

I get that radio is all about boosting numbers and listener-ship. But what they did yesterday in Nashville to Butch and again this morning was completely unprofessional and irresponsible. People are just fed up with it...........

Yep. This was taken out of context. It was reported as if he was asked about losing the EAST and responded with "well we are Champions of Life". Not at all what happened.

But now its been reported like that so that is all people will believe.

you're not wrong.

but it's up to Butch to figure out a way to communicate his message in a more effective manner....one that doesn't allow for the embarrassment of the last 24 hours.

That's cute. "Champions of life" "Brick by Brick" "Tennessee Tough" "Very very" "Really really" "25pts" "Maturation process", blah blah blah. I get what you're saying and agree but honestly he had it coming with all his BS clichés and constant coach speak over the last 4 years. The dude is a walking cliché robot. I'm almost certain all the media hates interviewing him because its the same rhetoric crap week in and week out. Jones has cable.

Yeah, because the media never ever takes things out of context....

It should be expected, and no matter the intention, Butch has managed to outcliche and coach speak himself. In the process he's given lots of people ammo to use.

As jake said, he really needs to figure out how to better word some things. But then again, the media's always gonna do what they do..

Of course we wish there was more integrity in media, but as long as the masses buy into what the media spews then we will have these types of situations. It's the same with politics and sports alike. The media gets away with setting the agenda because no matter what we still watch/read the stuff.

Who cares if the media hates him? He should start trolling them like Trump.

Saturday night he stated that winning the east was never discussed (something along those lines) and then followed that up Monday by saying Tennessee is still playing for a bowl championship and they've already won a life championship. The media had every right to run with this, they didn't take it out of context Butch has been deflecting since he got here.

Not everyone is tying it to him saying they aren't trying for championships, many are just making fun of what he said period. And you may not like it, but it was a poor choice of words and considering how much scrutiny he's under, it's not surprising the internet took this and ran.

Be honest, if this were another SEC school's coach doing this, you'd be laughing your ass off at him.

the problem with Butch is that anyone reporter that asks him a question about a loss, or losing the east. he can never address the question without having to spin something positive. it seems he takes any negative questions personally and he has to rebut the question these 'life champion' answers that doesn't applay

depends. what's their purpose these days? report the news? uh unh. you can get the news anywhere.

their job, in large part, is to generate traffic.

and while that's not CBJ's fault, but it is his fault to either not be aware of it, or account for it in how he communicates. it's the complete lack of that awareness, or refusal to acknowledge it for what it is, that allows for stuff like this. context and intent simply don't matter. is that fair? no. but it's reality, and he needs to adapt to it.

cause one thing i know, they're not adapting for him.

He seriously must not check social media, the news, or pay it any attention, because he continues to say the same things and come up with embarrassing cliches even though the public conception is not in his favor. Meanwhile VolNation and the Tennessee fanbase melts down. As a lot of you already said, I think lately the media has just been getting sick of it too and started to call him out on some of it. I am still waiting for a reporter to straight up call him out or ask a question about it at one of his pressers. Now that would be interesting.

he makes bad situations worse, a la "the chart", and makes what should be good situations, bad, a la "bowl champions/life champions".

he doesn't get it.

Yes he was trying to say nice things about the seniors but he also tried to deflect the attention off of the fact that he missed the SEC championship, which whether he'll admit it or not was the goal and it was an attainable goal with the talent he had. He also said Tennessee is still playing for a bowl championship, well yay Tennessee us along with 80 other D1 schools. At first you guys blamed the fans for blowing this up, when really it was the NATIONAL MEDIA. Marcus Spears said it best on Finebaum yesterday

Watch: Marcus Spears trashes Butch Jones' 'champions of life'

Butch is losing it, he is tone deaf to the actual goals here and is probably looking to get out after Saturday especially if Vandy pulls the upset.

agreed, and it didn't take much to see thru that, which tells me something about "own it". siap, he's a walking talking contradiction.

Oh absolutely. I'm just as sick as the coach talk as everyone else. I would love to hear Butch say something genuine about a negative situation just one time. He won't do it. and I'm not sure it has to do with a lack of awareness either. I think he knows the coach talk and the cliches makes the fans and media mad.. I just don't think he cares one bit.

That is your interpretation of what he said. You are turning this into what you are hearing. Not what is being said.

Or that they are constantly, constantly, constantly talking about him and Tennessee football.......

He isn't as dumb as you think. It's very calculated.

But, I really honestly think he was speaking about his Seniors and graduating and what they mean to the program.........
