I really enjoyed watching this for several reasons, but I was so impressed with T and his younger life, and his family and how he made something of himself, actually speaking at The White House after the NC. The game-by-game recaps were so cool... remembering each game specifically.

Jackie Sherrill cheated. Every coaching job he had, he broke the rules. He’d get caught, and the program paid the price. That’s not a great coach, in my opinion. I don’t care if he was good with the Xs and Os. He was “dirty.”

People have "idealistic" memories of certain coaches due to media without realizing that head coach was either A) scumbag cheater (like Sherrill or Bear) or B) a mediocre head coach (like Leach or Beamer)

Watching this Doc, speaks to me directly as a Gen Xer. This was our history, when we were in college. I knew Billy, he is exactly like how you see him in the doc.

Then at higher level. People talk about social and personal differences generationally. While kids nowadays surprise me with how they treat others, there are other bigger differences. Humility, perseverance, ability to handle diversity, selflessness, and biggest competitive drive to reach a unified goal.

Kudos to ESPN for doing something good.

Think of all the Bahr ties ... Charley Pell, Sherrill, Danny Ford, Pat Dye were all assistants... all had NCAA troubles. Bahr had NIL going way way before any other school.

As did many other coaches with Alabama connections: Bahr, Sherrill, Mike Dubose, Danny Ford, Howard Schnellenberger, Nick Saban.............and many others, brain's not working right now.

Watching I had forgotten just how talented that team was. Team was full of future NFL players. May have been most overall talented team in TN history.
Possibly. Some will say the 2001 team had more talent. If so, a good example that the team with the most talent isn’t necessarily the best “team”.

Every coach was dirty. It was impossible to win at a high level if you didn’t cheat.

I think the ‘99 team was more talented, they just lacked the leadership of the previous year.
I've taken this argument on before, but the players in 1999 that replaced Peerless Price, Shawn Bryson, Al Wilson, Jermaine Copeland, all had to be better than each of them for the 1999 team to be "more talented". None of them were close to as good. For me, 1998 wins the talent competition.

I agree on talent....Cedrick Wilson while good was not a replacement for Peerless Price and having Eric Parker as a feature WR was not it...

Losing Al Wilson was a leader that couldn't be replaced....most of the coaching staff and team (especially Tee Martin) went thru the motions after the Florida loss....

That team was one bad Chavis defensive drive from playing Florida State for the NC again, and also was one lucky Tee Martin Hail Mary against Memphis from going 8-4

1989-90, 1995, 1997 and 2001 were more "talented" than the NC team and 1999 teams though

I have think you nailed it as far as going through the motions. There were several players that I always thought made business decisions as the year wore on. I guess it’s inevitable once a group gets a ring.
