For the past several years, especially the last two, I have been like a lot of other Vols fanatics in my wishful thinking. Even though my brain tells me otherwise, I have let my emotions override my common sense and fall into that trap of thinking we can win these games. I get all excited thinking this is the game that we turn it all around, bust that seal and get over the hump! Then bam! I get crushed and wishing that I had never got sucked back in and regretting that I let myself ever get invested in this insane BS again. I go into a funk refuse to watch espn, read anything football related, etc. only to get slowly drawn back in and it starts all over again.

Not any more. I refuse to do it any longer. I'm simply refusing to set myself to fail.

We may or may not win another game this season. Thats the only way I can look at it.

I have been at this point for about 5 years now. I used to live and die with every play/every game. When we would lose I would be crushed and very angry. I would never miss a game if I could not make it in person I would for sure plan my day around watching. Now if I am home I will watch but don't plan my whole day around them anymore. Every game where the opponent is average to good I always just assume UT will lose.

I hear you. I knew coming into the season it would be a rough one. Despite the opinion of many other posters who think we should just smile and clap while we lose, it is hard to watch.

Too many young players with too much pressure to beat Florida, it will be ok but our O-line needs to block better and our WR needs to fight thru the press coverage.

You would think that out of the thousands of VN contributors, we could put together a much needed team of Psychiatrists/Psychologists to offer some sort of needed guidance for these poor people. There is no shame in occasionally needing a good swift, motivating foot planted on the keister to get your blood circulating. It is a shame to sit on it and curl into a ball and cry because things didn't go your way.:)

Did you honestly think that when Vegas set the over/under on the number of wins for us at 5.5 that they did this cause they hate us???

Seriously wow. I love football, ill watch it every night that its on TV, go to many local games when UT isn't playing or at home...its been a big part of my life since childhood, but let me fill some of you guys in on something that I learned a while ago....its a game. It doesn't determine your manhood, or pay your bills. It cant add anything to your life or take anything away from it. Good grief. I get disappointed, upset and sure I want to win just like anybody, but some fans need help, an intervention or some kind of medication. My closet is full of orange, I travel I-75 north most weeks with flags a flying, ill spend money on just about anything with a Vol logo...and I was so proud I almost cried when we won the NC in 98. Last Saturday I was pissed off, Sunday morning I realized that life hadn't ended and as a matter of fact, nothing in my life had changed because we got beat by Florida...time to move on. Nothing wrong with being disappointed, nothing wrong with being passionate, but if on Thursday morning you are still depressed about a football game that happened 5 days ago, you take things too seriously. JMO. Glad I could be of help. Of course now you can challenge my fan card because im obviously not as big a fan as you are. See ya Saturday.

We'll be ok, if you think it is getting unhealthy to watch football and acting like someone you don't even know, and yes taking a step back and regrouping is probably what a lot of us need to do. I just remind myself that these are 17-20 year men putting it on the line every week for themselves and the fans, and to be perfectly honest, I use to embarrass myself at how I have acted in front of my BIG SCREEN and wife. Everyone wants too win, and the 90s placed that taste in your mouth that we just can't get out.

Our time is coming, lets celebrate the things they do well and hope they fix the things they didn't. I will tell you one thing, its better than getting you butt kicked, these guys do not quit.

GBO!!!

Just take it for what it is; College Football. It could be worse. It could be May again with no CFB in sight for months.

I find it's best to have some competitive outlet of your own instead of worrying so much about what a bunch of kids that you don't even know do. Join a rec softball league, pool league, dart league, bowling league, golf league. Disc golf if fun!

If that doesn't help, remember what the players feel like. They live it brother, for months on end, just to be crushed by defeat or injury, yet they keep getting off the mat despite fair weather fans all around.

Pro tip..try not to let a teams performance on the field, good or bad, be a personal reflection of yourself in real life..

This is what it is to be a fan sometimes. Hope springs eternal in August as everyone is undefeated. You beat a couple of teams that you are "expected" to beat, play really well against some quality opponents, and then it seems that your team regresses. If you try to be a realist, then you are a negavol. If you presume too much success, you are a sunshine pumper. Common denominator for most IMO, is that we want some semblance of success so that the Vols can be relevant on the national scene. GBO!

Yep. The sad truth is this program is in a place where a 8-4 season would be a small miracle and we would all give our first born to be bowl eligible this year. I'm numb to it as well. It's at the point where when we lose I'm literally disappointed for about 5 minutes then continue on my day. Full on apathy has taken hold.
