Senate just passed bill to regulate college sports

Yep. That's your proof? 🤣🤣🤣

Wow. That was a horrible and blatant example and you laugh at it. You desire ignorance.

Minnesota basketball 1999
FSU football and other sports 2007
UGA basketball 2003
Syracuse basketball 2015
Memphis basketball 2008
Missouri football 2019
Auburn football 2006

Your position is DAF and rooted in some childlike ignorance.

Throwing out a bunch of exceptions over a bunch of years is what is DAF.

My position is based on first hand experience. Yours is "I just know" "Look what happened over there". You don't know details of how it works but will argue like you know with someone who forgot more than you know on the subject. That's as childlike as it gets.

You're a poster boy for the dumbing down phenomena

lol. You are embarrassing. You think that is every example? And damn, those are bad enough. A reasonable person would learn and concede the point.

FFS it went on at UNC for EIGHTEEN years.

No. You just think you know how it works and you don't. Universities pay a ton of money to academic counselors to keep their student athletes on the right track academically. The statement about those not wanting to go to class is remarkably uninformed

Thank you. I know that Pat Summitt and many of her players talked about how she (Pat) expected her players to graduate.

When the players speak these days for most of them you can tell they are educated. I don't know why it is difficult for some to understand that the majority of the players are taking advantage of ALL the opportunities they are offered when the attend college.

I never said it hadn't gone on at some places.

A reasonable person recognizes your uninformed, broad brushed generalizations.

Just look up the numbers and then get back to me. That's what reasonable people do.

Look up what numbers? Why is this point going over your head? The numbers get faked, thus looking at the numbers are useless.

Or do you want me to look at Derrick Rose’s ACT numbers? lol. Those kind of numbers?

If Roy Williams is put on the big screen at a home game the fans will cheer and the ESPN broadcasters will pay homage. It is baked in, people don’t GAF.

Yeah, and that is what I've been saying all along.

UT and schools like it are SCHOOLS and shouldn't be in the pro sports business. They should spin the football and basketball off as pro sports because, at this point, it has almost nothing to do with school.

Do you really believe that those spin offs would be successful and make money? This is the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE TEAM - if they spin off the team will no longer be the Tennessee Vols - it can't.

My take - let Knoxville start a pro team. They can use one of the local high school fields to play the game on until they build their own stadium. They can sign high school students and treat them as employees. Hopefully other cities will follow suit, so they have someone to play. Maybe Maryville, Chattanooga will field a team. Let football and basketball follow the minor league baseball model because that is what it will be. And we all know that those minor league baseball teams make a lot of money.

Let UT keep football but it will be for athletes that want to be embrace the opportunity of attending college and being a student-athlete.

Many can’t accept how corrupted our society has become.. That we have been supporting con artists across many institutions for most of our lives.

I always said most and never said all

Your posts are getting dumber and dumber with trying to prove your original ignorant claim.

If anything, those scandals tightened the compliance requirements. There is just so much you're not aware of that it makes you look extremely foolish, yet will will still argue with someone who knows exponentially more than you about it.

Conflating events makes you look worse than foolish

My new name for you is Exhibit A.

It makes no difference whether it would be successful or not, the UNIVERSITY is a university and not a pro sports owner.

Getting Congress to give a "loophole" so this is legal is a grotesque use of Congress. While possible, it's nothing close to what Congress or the University of Tennessee should be involved in.

Paying players to play a sport is a professional arrangement. Getting a loophole from Congress that says "no it isn't" is the most unconservative misuse of legislation the school could ask for.

Why? I assume you love UT. We both love UT. Why do you want it to be in the pro sports business? Why do you want this oddly cobbled together loophole that lets you pretend we aren't really in a professional league?

I don't want UT to be in the pro sports business which is why I feel there needs to be guardrails like this bill provides to protect the college atmosphere.

If not controlled college sports will die and the so-called pro teams you all keep spouting about will die as well. The NFL and NBA will just establish minor leagues around the US and folks will tune out.

And NIL is NOT paid by the school.

I know that it's a requirement to pass so many hours per year to be eligible for the following year. I know that at UT specifically, most of them are graduating and obtaining their degrees. I know that at UT, they don't recruit players who are marginal students coming out of high school.

I suppose to really answer your question the bottom line is that I stay informed on such matters, probably because I was a student athlete myself
You keep bringing up that you were a "student athlete". You've also brought up the fact that it was 40 years ago. That's like trying to say that a 1986 fox body Mustang GT is the same as a 2026 Mustang GT. While, they both have 2 doors, 4 wheels, and an engine, it is in no way the same thing. Just as your experience back in the 80's is nothing like a college athletes experience today. The only thing that's the same is the term "student athlete". It ends there. Most of these young men rarely walk inside of a classroom. A lot, if not most of their classes are attended online. Yes, some universities limit how many classes can be taken online, but not all, and I can't find any information that says UT limits how many an athlete can take online. That's just the nature of today's college environment for P5 football programs. Your talking point of "being in the know", or "because I have actual experience", is beyond irrelevant. This isn't 1986 and your self adulation of your glory days doesn't apply to todays college athletics. You prove just how much you don't know every single time you type that ridiculous BS.

I mean, you can shake your head and deny it all you like. They charge prices like a pro team, they market and advertise like a pro team, they're building an entertainment complex like a pro team, they're building a hotel like a pro team, they buy players like a pro team ...

Once upon a time, they didn't do that, but the money was too good and the people in charge were too weak to say no.

I also spent a year upon retirement as a consultant for an NCAA member institution specifically in this area.

Yes, many are taking some online classes. Still have to do the work.

If my experience bothers you, put me on ignore because, yes, I do know more about it than you
