Seems I Might Be Right

Sounds about like the only scenario I can see playing out. I actually thought it would be reversed, though.

Ah okay Scenedaily has a new article up saying Kahne still doesn't know where he'll be racing in 2011 and that today was first time he heard of the Phoenix rumors. The article also mentioned that Hendrickcars.com would be sponsoring the #09 this race for Cassill as well.

I was talking to Bob Pockrass on Twitter he said it was his opinion that Kahne would go to the #09 only if there was meaningful sponsorship and the need to put him in some equipment.

There is now an article on Nascar.com about it and it said that sources indicated that he wouldn't be in the #09. It also said there were a lot of options being thrown around, in another news report it said that SHR was the first option but sponsorship and financial constraints ruled them out. Rick wants him in a Chevy and taking a year off isn't an option.

Here are the Chevy teams in Nascar right now:

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing - I don't see it happening, don't use Hendrick motors or chassis.
Richard Childress Racing - RCR is Rick's biggest Chevy threat, I don't see him going there.
Furniture Row Racing - Uses Hendrick motors but receives chassis and technical support from RCR. Perhaps they expand or they kick Regan Smith to the curb?
Phoenix Racing - Already receives Hendrick support plus they're running a HMS development driver this Sunday.
Stewart-Haas Racing - I would assume SHR would be the first option but Old Spice is leaving and both cars will not be fully sponsored next year. Plus Tony doesn't seem all that interested in expanding either.
Tommy Baldwin Racing - I don't see this option at all.
TRG Motorsports - They receive support from RCR this year, I don't know, they already have sponsor problems. They are using a pit crew supplied from SHR, do they end their partnership with RCR and join up with HMS? They have talked about running a second car so they could still keep Bobby in the #71.
Keyed-Up Motorsports - Again another unlikely option.

That's all the current Chevy backed teams active this year, from that group I see maybe two real options. Maybe a "new" Chevy team starts during the off season?

Would Hendrick ask around in the Chevy stable in Nationwide? Would a current Toyota or Ford team switch to pick up Kahne? Come on Rick just answer all the questions. I hate when silly season starts so early.

there is WAY too much thought being put into the possible scenarios on this board.

From NASCAR.com:

BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Nearly two months have passed since Kasey Kahne confirmed his future move to Hendrick Motorsports and seemingly the driver is no closer to knowing where he will drive next season.

Kahne will join Hendrick Motorsports next year and is in line to replace Mark Martin in the No. 5 car but not until Martin's contract ends in 2012, leaving a question mark on the 2011 season.

Rick Hendrick and Kahne are working closely on a solution that may include a number of different options; Stewart-Haas Racing is one of several being batted around but sources say Phoenix Racing is not being considered despite rumors reported this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.

"Our position with regard to 2011 has not changed. We continue to be open to various options, and nothing has been determined at this time," said Jesse Essex, manager of communications for Hendrick Motorsports.

Also not being considered, despite constant inquisitions, is Martin exiting the No. 5 car to accommodate Kahne.

"I'm not letting it bother me but, last year, I would say that I checked on what was going on in the racing world every single day and I've stopped doing that. It has affected me to some degree. I'm watching less of it on TV and reading less of it on the Internet as of right now," said Martin, who beyond 2011 has yet to make concrete plans for his involvement in racing whether it be team ownership or driving duties.

"I have to say that options are in the beginning stages of formulating for what 2012 would bring with not a very high sense of urgency since I've actually made it clear that I'm going to be driving the No. 5 car next year," Martin added.

The few details in the Kahne equation that are fairly clear is Hendrick wants him driving a Chevrolet and taking a year off is not an option.

Speaking earlier this week at Tony Stewart's Prelude to the Dream, Kahne said he is surprised something for 2011 has yet to materialize.

"It keeps getting a little bit later in the year, so I'd imagine it's coming soon," Kahne said. "But at the same time, Mr. Hendrick has a lot of patience, and he does things the right way, and he's just trying to make sure he puts me in the best possible spot that he can.
