From NASCAR.com:
BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Nearly two months have passed since Kasey Kahne confirmed his future move to Hendrick Motorsports and seemingly the driver is no closer to knowing where he will drive next season.
Kahne will join Hendrick Motorsports next year and is in line to replace Mark Martin in the No. 5 car but not until Martin's contract ends in 2012, leaving a question mark on the 2011 season.
Rick Hendrick and Kahne are working closely on a solution that may include a number of different options; Stewart-Haas Racing is one of several being batted around but sources say Phoenix Racing is not being considered despite rumors reported this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
"Our position with regard to 2011 has not changed. We continue to be open to various options, and nothing has been determined at this time," said Jesse Essex, manager of communications for Hendrick Motorsports.
Also not being considered, despite constant inquisitions, is Martin exiting the No. 5 car to accommodate Kahne.
"I'm not letting it bother me but, last year, I would say that I checked on what was going on in the racing world every single day and I've stopped doing that. It has affected me to some degree. I'm watching less of it on TV and reading less of it on the Internet as of right now," said Martin, who beyond 2011 has yet to make concrete plans for his involvement in racing whether it be team ownership or driving duties.
"I have to say that options are in the beginning stages of formulating for what 2012 would bring with not a very high sense of urgency since I've actually made it clear that I'm going to be driving the No. 5 car next year," Martin added.
The few details in the Kahne equation that are fairly clear is Hendrick wants him driving a Chevrolet and taking a year off is not an option.
Speaking earlier this week at Tony Stewart's Prelude to the Dream, Kahne said he is surprised something for 2011 has yet to materialize.
"It keeps getting a little bit later in the year, so I'd imagine it's coming soon," Kahne said. "But at the same time, Mr. Hendrick has a lot of patience, and he does things the right way, and he's just trying to make sure he puts me in the best possible spot that he can.
