who are your SEC POY, FOY, and COY?

Player of the Year-Chris Lofton: Only player in the SEC to average 20 points

Freshman of the Year-Patrick Beverly: Led all SEC freshmen in scoring with 14.3 ppg (13th in SEC)

Coach of the Year-Andy Kennedy: Ole Miss was picked to finished 6th in the West and either 11 or 12 in the SEC and at the end of year they shared the SEC west title. Remarkable job by AK

I have a hard time seeing any coach out of the SEC West getting COTY.

While Kennedy did a fine job at Ole Miss, they still only went 8-8 in the conference. Do they give him the award for simply exceeding expectations?

I guess when you think about it, that's why they gave it to Pearl last year, even though UT still went 12-4.
:hmm:

I thought Brady won COY last year.

Oops. Didn't Pearl win CotY somewhere? I just assumed it was the official SEC CotY.

You would be correct.

The last thing I really want to do is give any props to an alligator. That being said, the work Donovan did with all the expectations staring him in the face would make him a solid pick for COY in conference.

My vote would have to be the Pearl though. Crafting four freshmen into a remarkably successful unit so quickly deserves recognition.

He won Coach of the Year nationally from a few different sporting publications, I believe, but got snubbed by the SEC coaches.

Ah, that's right. I knew he won it somewhere.

Since Brady won it last year for winning the regular season title... what's stopping Donovan from winning it this season? I suppose Donovan, Kennedy, Pearl, and even Stallings are all in the discussion.

Are you trying to say he isn't liked by many of the other SEC coaches?
Uhh, that would probably be the understatement of the year :)

Considering at the awards he received nationally (see above), it's disgraceful that he didn't win it at the SEC level last season.

they were picked to finish dead last in their divison and either 11 or 12 in the whole SEC and ended up winning their divison with Miss. State. Exceeding Expectations is finished a spot or two above what people thought you would finish

Fair enough. Even still, I can't see someone winning Coach of the Year by only going 8-8 in the conference, unless they were playing with 10 walk-ons.

he went above exceeding expectations

Ole Miss 8-8
Miss St 8-8
Bama 7-9
Ark 7-9
Aub 7-9
LSU 5-11

He's not far from the bottom of the West which is also the bottom of the conf. Half of the SEC had as good or better record than OM.

While Kennedy did a heck of a job, my vote is for Pearl (and yes, I'm biased).

Pearl groomed 4 freshmen into having key roles on the team this year, and finished 22-9 and 10-6 in league play all while dealing with the loss of his leading scorer for 4 games.

Ole Miss exceeded expectations, but did it in a mediocre division. We went 10-6 in the East, which is no small feat.

Well, for what it is worth, my votes would go to:

POY--Chris Lofton
COY--Kevin Stallings
FOY--Undecided. Chism, Beverly, and Hansbrough are probably the top choices based on statistics. R. Smith, Crews, and Meeks all make major contributions and have the talent to be considered.

When do they award SEC POY, FOY, and COY? I know the women did it before the SEC tourney. Do they do the same with the guys?
