I know Im wrong for saying it, maybe even thinking it, but Im kind of fired up because this is Southern football.

Worst Fan Reaction Of The Year (18)

Give it to Gator Nation for the reported 200 threatening phone calls to the owner of the towing company involved in safety Tony Joiner's burglary charge last week. There were multiple death and bomb threats among the calls, owner Stan Forron told Florida Today.

Runner-up is the plastic cup bombardment Alabama fans rained upon Georgia after the Bulldogs scored the winning touchdown in overtime at Tuscaloosa on Sept. 22.

And SEC fans wonder why the rest of the nation thinks they're insane.

I would just like to add that the Big Ten channels are total hassle to have to scroll past when watching TV.

GO VOLS!

not saying that the things that are done in the name of fandom are dripping with class, but I am reminded how seriously football is taken in the South. I cannot help but have a perverse kind of pride.

How can you compare students throwing plastic cups (at least they were plastic, I have seen whiskey bottles take flight at Oxford) to what the Rutgers student body did when they chanted "F--- you Navy" over and over. I live in the city that is the birthplace of Naval Aviation and that was insulting to our country. Insulting a rival is one thing, insulting the young men and women I see every day is quite another. Funny how that was not mentioned, and yet the sentiment in that article seemed to be, "Boy those Southerners sure are embarrassing". That HAS to be the worst fan reaction of the year. Sorry, that just got me heated.

Well, please remember the Navy chant happened in new Jersey.

Nuff said.

I've seen whiskey bottles fly out of the stands at Neyland over the years. The college football experience can include exposure to less than desirable behavior. Since I have been taking my kids to games, they have seen people with plastic tubing in their sleeves so they can introduce unknown substances to their cokes, various smuggled alcoholic beverages, and two old guys with young dates while other people close to us express loudly that they wish Grandpa and Uncle Ned wouldn't bring their whores to the games.

It's all part of the rich tapestry of life and it occurs in spite of the best efforts of a lot of people. While I don't like my kids being exposed to all that, I'm sort of rowdy myself, so I don't complain very much.

I think I heard that chant during the LSU/UF game also. It makes me wonder how long you actually have to chant it in order for it to be clearly heard over the TV. Seems odd that in such a diverse crowd something like that would happen.

Sorry to say it happens at a lot of places, north, south, east, and west. One of the funniest things I saw was at Assembly Hall Indiana when coach Knight was coaching. There was a call that went against the hoosiers and the student section started shouting "Bulls--t!" Knight called time out, grabbed the PA system and told the students to stop it, it showed a lack of class, and he would not tolerate that kind of "jackass' behavior. His words were something like this" Indiana is a class school, with the best fans, so sit your ass down and shut your damn mouth." Love that guy. :ermm:

The cup fiasco at Alabama was classless, but then look at last night's barrage in the Diamondbacks-Rockies game. Philadelphia booed Santa Claus, and they booed Mike Schmidt in his last game. You get classless fans everywhere. I won't even get into what Scotland is like during football (soccer) season.

I don't really agree with this. They are a football team and they were trying to beat us. I doubt they would want to be treated any differently than we treat other teams. I understand the sacrifice they will be making in the future but this is still football.

I went to that game and didn't hear any booing. Not saying that it didn't happen, since you heard some, but it certainly wasn't loud.

We had a thread here about it and I was pretty sure that there was none (or very little). There were also articles in the KNS about it. Not saying it didn't happen from a few random people (I wasn't there) but can't imagine it was too loud.

I think there will always people who will boo or cheer at innappropriate times. I like to think that they are just complete idiots and don't know any better rather than they are evil people booing our armed forces.

I don't really agree with your assesment. The Air Force Academy football team is populated with young men that have made a commitment to protect our country with their lives and don't deserve to be booed. What the hell, no group of young players coming into our great stadium deserve to be booed just for taking the field. That's just bush league crap. Well, unless it's Bama or Florida (just kidding)
