SEC East Up For Grabs?

I am never ceased to be amazed at how fickle some fans are.

Fickled yes. Fans no. Some of the posts I've seen about the coaches, the players and even posts about the cheerleaders are little overboard. I would never call someone a fan who wished his team would lose 4 or 5 games....even to get rid of a coach.

Fickle??? Look, people don't really want the VOLS to lose. They want to see a major coaching change. In order for that essential change to happen, our team has to lose games plain and simple.

Most fans want to see Fulmer go (and IMO, rightly so). I would rather see us bomb out one year, get a new coach and start fresh rather than us drag on and run the program into the ground and it take years to rebuild our name/rep as a top notch program.

I myself have no doubt that we will lose to Georgia. Much like the Fla game, we probably won't belong on the same field. My question is, will it be enough to cause Mike Hamilton to make a move?
This was great, and sad: fire him

How many times do people have to ask the same questions over and over?

Also, what about Georgia makes you think they are so great and that we wouldn't deserve to be on the same field as them? Because they had an ugly win against an Alabama? Because they beat Oklahoma State, who also lost to Troy? Or was it their loss at the hands of South Carolina that makes them so much better than us? Sad.

I can't agree with this. I'm not the biggest fan of Fulmer, but I don't want to see us bomb out. If it happens, it happens and there's nothing we can do about it. If we went 10-2 would you be pissed off and want Fulmer gone still? If anyone feels this way they should be ashamed. If Fulmer wins games that we should win, I'm fine with Fulmer at the helm. As for my earlier statements, I just don't think we will beat Georgia...but I hope I'm wrong

I don't care what the coaching situation is now or 10 years from now, I'm a Vols fan and I will never hope we lose any game to get a coach fired. I think we need change like I've posted several times like many of you but I would love nothing more than for Fulmer to be the coach if they could win with him.

I've been looking at Fulmer's stats over the last few days and I'm currently compiling, what I would consider as a very indicative set of stats on UT's performance with him "at the helm."

I'll post these in a day or two.

I'm a Vol fan, not necessarily a Fulmer fan. I want to see the Vols do the best they can. We aren't. We definitely are not with Fulmer coaching. Things should change. I want better for my team PERIOD.

Answering your question concerning, if we go 10-2 (highly doubtful). But I guess it would earn him another year (not by my choosing). The stats I've been looking at show a definite trend comparing his first 10 years vs his last five. The trend is going down. This year if we went 10-2, I would consider it a momentary spike on a definite decline.

Wishing for us to lose though is just terrible. As for everything else, I've grown tired of talking about this subject again.

No, I wish Fulmer would bow out with dignity and pride (at the end of the year) for a heckuva good job, taking us to the NC and bringing it back, winning 2 SECCG's, and building a great name for the school, before he takes it down any further. That's what I wish.

I just don't think it'll happen.

I too am tired of this subject and we'll just let the year play out.

You, for one, are a disgrace to Vols fans everywhere with that statement.

I have my opinion about Fulmer i like probably alot of fans know that if we happen to win enuff games that will keep Fulmer and whether agree with me or not TENNESSEE DOES NOT NEED ANOTHER YEAR OF FULMER!it is a downward spiral. We have to much talent every year to get out on the field unprepared to play football.EXAMPLE>cant tackle thats a fundamental>excuse>POOR COACHING!!

I for one hope we lose to Georgia,Bama,Kentucky etc etc.Because if we dont and win say 8-10 games we will still have that Orange Oarf on the sidelines next year and Florida will clean our clocks again!Face it he is washed up and is to stubborn to change his coaching style in other words he is a pig-headed full of himself doughnut eating slob who says its his way or no way!WELL I SAY ITS TIME FOR THE HIGHWAY PHIL!:shades:

In regard to a polite little discussion that I was involved in earlier today: :lolabove::):)

I doubt it....at least for us. I thought the Ga game would doom fulmer anyway, but especially now that Phil has been talking it up as our second chance. We'll prove again that we can't compete with the big boys anymore.

I'm sorry but that could be the dumbest looking link ever on VN.

It will go a long ways toward it. What I worry about more is that I think a loss to UGA and the players may tank the rest of the season. Could get really really ugly.
On the other hand, if the upperclassmen mail it in it would give the staff a perfect excuse to start more of the young guys whose skills and enthusiasm could be the difference between a W or an L against Arky, Bama, SC, Vandy and KY.

Fulmer helped get Hamilton his job and he donated the million dollars to UT so it might be harder than expected to get rid of Phil not to mention the 6.4 million buyout.
could be complete B.S. but I read a post on another baord today wherein a guy quoted Haslam as saying that there would not be another 8-4 season and that he (Haslam) had donated a lot more than $1 million.

It is pretty bizzare to come on a UTK fan board and state that you are hoping for a Vol loss, even though most of us understand that the people who are posting this stuff mean they hope the Vols lose because they believe it will get rid of Fulmer thereby helping the Vols in the long run. It would probably be better for someone who feels this way to state that they desire a UGA win rather than stating a desire for a Vol loss. I guess it's just semantics but one of those statements has the ring of positivism that so many people seem to be keen on maintaining, while the other is purely defeatist.

While LSU certainly looked like a juggernaut against VaTech they have not exactly looked like world beaters the past two weeks allowing SC to stay within striking distance and playing an abysmal first half against Tulane. It's not impossible to think that an angry and talented UF team could march into Baton Rouge and pull out a win.

Don't know what you mean by "alter ego" Anyway...on topic...do you think that a Ga loss will doom fulmer?

If he loses by a landslide (14 points or more) he is done at the end of the year. If he loses a nailbiter after both teams playing their hearts out he will be on the hot seat but won't be allowed to lose any more this year.

Win big against UGA and he will gain back enough respect that one close loss against bama or SC or even Kentucky won't doom him.

Fulmer's big problem of late is his coaching is too conservative and when he tries to make an attempt to change it up the resulting plays look chaotic and unnatural.

If by some chance he wins out, then he is good for another year. Win out and win the bowl game and he will be back in total good graces.

Uhh....calm down, spanky. It's not "mine" I found it on another message board where a Penn State fan posted it. It ALSO happens to have OUR head coach on it, so it is definately something of interest for TN fans. Now go clean up your room and go to bed.

That site was complete and utter garbage, and I don't know if you can come up with a good reason to have linked it here. You swung and missed on your first try.

I'am with you on that. Auburn beat florida. Beat them last year. Lsu better not be overconfident. Florida is a team you can't sleep on.

Thank you!

I wasn't going to respond to the dufus and bump the thread. I am finally glad that someone saw this for what it was, trash. This poster is trolling, and I don't like seeing other VolNation members falling for it. Read his posts and you will quickly see that he is nothing more than a glorified spamer.

the past few days I have heard from numerous sources that an UGA loss will indeed be his demise. However, I just can't shake the fact that a 4 loss season w/ a bowl win and Bama victory gives him his one more season to win the SEC.

The way we've pooched our first two losses, if those other two losses are in the same manner, it would be hard to make a case for another season if we beat a team like Houston in a bowl.
