I know it's only been one weekend of games so far, but after the performance of the "top" teams in the east, I feel a lot more confident in UT's chances to go to ATL again.

UGA - Their supposed "Best Front 7 in the nation" looked pathetic against Buffalo's offense, at least in the first half. Also, Gurley did have a monster game, but remember, they were playing buffalo.

USCe - Almost losing to Vandy?

Vandy - Found a way to lose the game, typical vandy fashion.

UF - Like UGA, looked pathetic against a vastly inferior team, especially in the first half. Once they got it nailed down to 1 QB, they looked better, but still not that good.

Tenn - By far looked the best out of these teams, played a full 4 Quarters of football (How long has it been since we were able to do that?). Also, our opponet was a lot better than Bowling Green or Buffalo, and our offense seemed to really gell. Our O-line played a lot better, and our Defense was making plays.

I think we have a legit shot to win the east, what do ya'll think?

we also have to deal with Mizzou. Will know more about them after they play UGA

not ready to annoint UT but we have as good a shot as any. UGA did get the best schedule out of all though

We will know a lot more about the East after the next two weeks. Tex AM v. UF and Mizzo v. UGA will be telling. I think UF probably kept it simple v. BG and will come in and give Tex AM a real test. It hurts Tex AM since they didn't get to play last week, and having a new QB taking his first start in the programs first SEC game v. Gators is not a good way to go. I think I'd rather the gators come in to Neyland 2-0 when we beat them!

UGA probably gets it done v. Mizzo, but that will not be an easy win either.

With all the variables that need to be lined up for SEC success, anything can happen...

...you just never know.

The SEC East is wide open and Tennessee has as good a shot as any.

I would say I'm holding out judgement until I see us play UF, but I may have to wait until the UGA game to really get a feel for how good this team is. UF may be horrible this year.

UF is not close to horrible. If TN pulls out the win in two weeks though you will have Negavols saying just that. All you have to do is take a look at thier recruiting classes the past 4 years. UF has talent all over the field. They kept it basic v. BG, and you'll see a better performance against Tex AM, and a 2-0 UF team roll into Knoxville.

I think TN gets the win over the gators and it will be big.

We'll see after the UF game.....I don't want to get too excited before we even snap the ball against an SEC team.

Also FWIW, I think:

Mizzou will beat UGa

And A&M will beat UF

....Meaning UF will be hungry when they show up in Neyland, and Mizzou will be ready for an upset.

A one game sample is not enough to make predictions. After the UF game--that is when we will know.

I agree with everything here, well said.

Something that I really learned last year is how much one or two injuries can impact a team. Already we are seeing an example at USCe with Connor Shaw being banged up. A USCe team without a healthy Shaw is unlikely to finish #1 or #2 in the east.

As of right now, I like our chances - I still think UGA is the frontrunner and that UF has enough talent to just turn it on at any point during the season.

I like the fact that we play Florida early as I anticipate they will work out their offensive kinks and be much better by the end of the season (moreso than the average team).

I hope we play the UF game with the 7 year chip on our shoulder. Their defense is stout but beatable. I believe that UF is having some of the same problems we have had the past two years. The kids that are playing committed to Urban Meyer and his group of coaches and now they are playing for themselves and not the team. Also, their offense is lacking significantly in proven talent.

Here's my prediction for the upcoming weekend. UGA will absolutely mule kick Mizzou in the teeth on their home field. Mark it down.

Not so sure about that. I think uga wins a nail biter.

Edit: I decided to straddle the fence and call it a coin flip. What I saw of the uga v buff game, I holding my opinion on both mizzou and uga until this weekend.

We really need UGA to lose this one. It would help us out trmendously down the road.

No we don't, we need A&M and Mizzou to know their place in the SEC.. Let them take their lumps, we can't have them come in and play with the big boys.. Getting all big headed and stuff.

Don`t want to be Debbie Downer, but let`s play UF-UGA-MSU if we are 3-0 in the SEC after, then, yes we have a real chance to win the SEC east.

A Mizzou DT said after watching UGA vs Buffalo, he said UGA plays "old man football" and that Mizzou can beat anyone in the SEC. Look out.

No. The guy was right, we need UGA to lose because with their schedule they will be major competition in the East. You do want us to win the division right?

Until UGAs roster settles down and you see what they have or they lose, I still think everybody is chasing them and their schedule.

Thats not to say they walk away with it, but I still think they are in the front seat.

Outside of Vandy and UK I think everyone else will factor into the race.
