As per the SEC website and rulebook, the following determines the divisional winners of the SEC:

"The participants of the game are determined each year during the eight-game regular-season conference schedule as the teams with the best overall SEC winning percentage in each division."

Therefore, if we go 6-2 and the Gators go 6-1 since they indefinitely postponed the LSU game, they will represent the East in the Championship. Don't shoot the messenger, I just have seen conflicting posts on here about how divisions are decided. Tiebreakers begin with head to head results, then become increasingly more weird, only if the overall SEC win percentage is the same.

But it would be total BS it Florida/LSU don't reschedule and this horrible scenario occurs.

Of course if we go 8-0 none of this matters.

Edit: In my lame attempt to explain rules, I missed the requirement for an eight game conference schedule. Thanks Ruger1234 for pointing that out. There is a reason I lurk instead of starting threads, I suppose. Carry on, while I eat my crow. 😃

Second Edit: Now there is some ambiguity about an eight conference game requirement and if the percentage is determined by number of games actually played, versus a base eight for every team.

Let them skip it, it won't matter, we are about to win out and Florida can chicken out of as many games as they want to.

They have to play the game.

Yep.

This is the most practical reason you have a conference commissioner. In an extreme situation like this, he has to force their hand.

Sankey has to force both teams to buy out their November 19 opponents, do something to make them both whole for the loss of a home game, and force them to play that day.

Nobody will want to see UF and their garbage team in the SEC game if UT is playing well at that time. Plus it will cause a national uproar because everybody hates the gators, not just us.

No way the SEC allows this to happen.

Without playing LSU they fail to meet the eight game regular season requirement.

I totally missed that part, thank you.

My thoughts are if you don't play the FULL 8 game conference schedule, you shouldn't be allowed to play in the championship game. Hell, why wouldn't we just "postpone" all of our conference games next year other than Vandy and go to the SECCG as a 1-0, undefeated East team.

Well, VOLS better only lose one, or none to be sure we're they stand. But-- But I think Fl. still has at least one more loss, (good chance two).

I was thinking this way already - no game = did not participate. It's like not turning in an assignment = 0 unless you find a way to make it up. Even if it's excused absence so to speak.

To rephrase slightly: "best winning percentage over an EIGHT game SEC schedule". This means to me winning percentage equals no. of wins divided by eight therefore not playing one or more games does not improve ones winning percentage.

What UF is looking for is more time for their QB to heal before playing LSU, the most likely loss on UF's remaining schedule. This move may work to their favor but may not. Outside of LSU, I expect UF to sustain at least one more loss in the SEC this season.

Yeah - it's still a curious call because if they play LSU this week they'd get to miss facing Fournette.

Why can't the sc order the game to be played in Baton Rouge or Atlanta this weekend??

I edited the OP, since, well, fail. Thanks fellas for pointing out the eight game requirement.

My understanding is the SEC can force them to play even if they have to lose an OOC opponent. Nov. 19 looks like the likely date. Both have cupcakes that week.

Do the by laws not have any mention of cancelled conference games? I don't understand why you would use Win Percentage rather than just straight wins.

Florida isn't going to win out anyway, they aren't that good and Arky and UGA will probably beat them. Just win BIG ORANGE!!!!!

Can you post the link to where you found the rule please? I would go a long way to point to the actual SEC rule book when people are saying "but the guy on the radio says this..."

F'em. But to be fair, they did offer LSU to reschedule the game to Nov. 19, with LSU saying "no thanks, we have to play South Alabama that weekend."
