So the winner of Texas / Texas A&M is likely in.

Viscous circle of Tie-Breakers: How does it work if Georgia holds the tie breaker over us, Alabama (and Ole Miss) holds the tie breaker over Georgia, but WE hold the tie breaker over Alabama, but then you might go back to Georgia holding the tie breaker over us???

Now Ole Miss holds the tie breaker over Georgia but lost to LSU and Kentucky. If Ole Miss wins out are they in the Championship game since none of the remaining teams (Alabama and us) hold a tie breaker over them? If they lose to Florida which is entirely possible does that put us in since we hold the tie breaker over Alabama??

No common opponents so they will use record of each contender’s opponents within the conference and Alabama and A&M would get the tiebreaker at this point. We have no shot at getting in. Ole Miss has no shot. Georgia is through with their conference schedule so they won’t get in. It’s down to Alabama, A&M, and Texas.

Opponents' records
Alabama27-26
Texas A&M24-29
Georgia23-28
Texas22-31
Tennessee 21-32
Ole Miss 21-33

Way too early to tell which tie-breaker rules might be important and which not.

If I counted right, there are still EIGHT conference games involving the six teams vying for a spot in Atlanta. Any of those eight games could change which teams are in the tie. And which teams are in the tie makes a HUGE difference in how the tie-breakers play out.

So best for now to just watch these next two weeks play out, And win out, of course.

Go Vols!

Kiffin said what most are thinking. If I've got two losses better to NOT be in championship game rather that risk a 3rd loss and perhaps get pushed out of the CFP,

How is Bama getting in the SEC champ? I’m literally confused why people are suggesting this?

The loser of the conference championship isn’t getting punished for losing. Lame the loser is wrong.

There is still a lot of football to play. The latest prediction I've seen from ESPN has Bama as first in to championship game with current situation. They listed UT 4th according to their calculations based on SEC's tie breakers. One question would be, if Bama loses championship game do they still get in with 3 losses over a 2 loss UT? We all know the committee loves Bama.

A three loss SEC teams gets left out. That would be impossible for the committee to explain, even if it is Bama.

Part of the reason Kiffin said some coaches do not want to make Atlanta.

So that holds true for all the other conferences as well? Is three losses the acceptable magic number to allow conference championship runner-ups into the playoffs?

If the gators can upset Ole Miss and Texas beats A&M then it gets much simpler - I believe that could set up a Georgia vs Texas rematch. But if A&M can upset Texas, it could set up a Georgia vs Bama rematch in the SECCG. The winner gets the #2 seed and the loser, especially if it’s Bama, could quite possibly get left out.

Im pretty sure the league will do what they believe gives the SEC the best shot at getting 4 teams into the playoffs and hopefully having 2 teams seeded in the 5th through 8th slots.

A 3 loss loser of the SEC CG will not get left out of playoffs Especially if it’s Bama or UGA OR Texas.

How can you leave someone out who got to the CG over those that didn’t. They just lost to the guy you gave a bye to as one of the top 4 seeds.
