"There are some really good quarterbacks in this league, and not many were more highly ranked than Jarrett Guarantano. But he sure didn’t play very well last year when he got a chance. He holds onto the ball too long and takes some unnecessary hits. He has to step his game up. People thought he would step in and be like Joshua Dobbs, but Dobbs is a better thrower than people thought, and he made plays with his feet. Guarantano, I don’t think, is a dual threat like people think. He has a good, live arm, but he’s not a dynamic spread-offense runner. To be fair, I don’t know that he is surrounded by a lot of weapons on the perimeter."

The only positive comments , at all, about our team were about Pruitt and sherrer being good defensive coaches, and nigel warrior being a good safety.

Opposing coaches have no respect for our athletes, QB, receivers (surprised me, just a little though) , or front 7. That's why this will be a 6 and 6 or I think 7 and 5 season. Got to get bigger and faster Jimmy's and joes...

I believe Pruitt can bring us back. How well Helton does at OC will be huge. I am very happy that we are going away from the spread, back to a pro style offense...problem there is a pro style offense is typically more predictable, and you need 90s era Ut offensive lines to run smashmouth football. I think that despite having good RBs this year, and talent at WR...we will struggle to score against good SEC defenses.

Go Vols, I'll be cheering for em every week

In before someone says "but his accuracy!"..

Quote is spot on though. Has legs of stone, shoes of molasses, and the SEC game is too quick for him.

Don't worry, someone will be along shortly to tell you that his completion percentage is just below that of Tua Tagovailoa's, and that all of the sacks he ate were the fault of the o-line and Larry Scott's play-calling.

I think this is a poor statement. I will put Jennings and Callaway up against anyone in the league! Now, the main question is can we get the ball to them to make big plays? But to say we don't have "weapons on the perimeter" is foolish!

To be fair, he didn't have Jennings to throw to last year, and Callaway disappeared after about the third week.

Not making excuses for the guy, but you have to look at the situation as well. On most drives it was two short runs for 0-2 yards then a 3rd and long. He was often pressured from both sides and was trying to just get the ball somewhere. The protection and situations caused by playcalling and lack of running back play made it pretty challenging. Then you have to wonder if butch told him not to run considering dormady was out and he didnt want JG to get hit on scrambles which backfired in hindsight.

"Not making excuses for the guy"...........followed by several excuses for the guy.

People really don't comprehend just how much of a freak once in a generation guy at QB Dobbs was. If he had a decent QB coach for his four years he here'd be leaving as one of the 2/3 best QBs we've ever had, because he succeeded despite being an average passer most days.

Before anyone tries to get numbers or throw around that he wasn't an average passer, he was average because he was not consistent. He might make a throw that would be difficult for Manning or Brees one play, then the very next miss a wide open 4 yard route. His athleticism (which is probabaly 1B. to Cam Newton's 1A. for all time most athletic SEC QBs) was able to hide a lot of his passing issues. Just like the QB before him at UT, he had the ability to be an all time great, not just at the school but in the conference, if coaching was just a little better.

The thing is JG will never have a fraction of Peyton Manning's football intelligence...............................................................................just sayin';)
Who really knows though? We had a team last year with very few proven playmakers. Lost all of our key recievers, quarterback, both running backs, sutton, Barnett, etc, so with some experience under everyones belt and jennings back with some new coaches he could be very very good or the same. He cant be any worse.

If Manning were graded on Football IQ as a 100/100 I'm not sure anyone else all time at QB would even be above a 95 or so.
