SEC 2 through 5?

Because it’s early in the season and they picked up a big win over Houston. I don’t think it’s guaranteed they jump us, but polls are pretty reactionary this early. We played UT Martin and Alabama beat Houston.
They play a pretty good Rutgers team and Dylan Harper, tonight, if they win, I agree they will probably be #3, if they lose, no telling

That was my thought. Not guaranteed but it would make sense. One could argue Auburn over KU but the number one never drops without a loss

Going in to Thanksgiving i think the top 5 SEC teams are: (strictly my opinion)

1. Auburn - I think they have the 2 best wins over Iowa State and NC- their defense is nasty
and they don’t care to mug you on break away baskets
2. Tennessee- we have Mashack and he can neutralize anyone guarding 1-4.
3. Alabama- win over Houston was impressive.
4. Kentucky - win over Duke who may be overrated
5. Florida - they can shoot it from deep, waiting to see how the scandal plays out with their coach.

Our 2 best wins are @Louisville & Baylor (neutral). We currently are 7-0. Next 3 games are Syracuse-Home, Miami in the Big Apple, and @ Illinois. Then we close with Western Carolina, MTSU, & Norfolk State all at home. I personally see us at 12-1 heading into conference play. We are razor thin in depth right now, and the right injury could really hurt us. Hope we stay healthy. Hopefully Carr will be ready by conference play and provide some much needed depth. Defense is going to carry this team. I can see us struggling to score against physical teams in the conference. If we can keep the games in the mid 70s we will give ourselves a chance to be successful in conference. The conference will be brutal and physical. What I’ve seen so far, a mugging sometimes does not draw a whistle. Don’t be surprised with the winner being 13-5 or 12-6. Gainey, Dubar, & Phillips will determine if we can make a push in SEC play. Hope we don’t fizzle out in February and have games where we score in the high 50s or low 60s. As always, in Barnes we trust! Go Vols! Happy Thanksgiving to all! Be thankful for your blessings and don’t overeat tomorrow. lol. After dinner, go for a brisk walk, run, or hike. Keep moving.

They have a loss already tho. I don’t see how a 1-loss Bama team jumps an undefeated UT team who’s throttled the three P4 school's they’ve played.

Not like Football, a loss on the road to a ranked team is not going to really hurt them and they are where they are in the rankings AFTER that loss so the question is how much does the win over Houston help them. Since the voters already have shown their feelings about Houston I would not be surprised if they jump both us and Kentucky but maybe not. IT will certainly all work its way out. Of course the result of the Rutgers game is not yet in. 41- 41 at half

I just don’t see it happening. We’ve been playing waaaaay too well to justify it. Stranger things have happened, but I’ll be very surprised if we get jumped by Alabama.

Certainly a fair take. I just think that maybe all of the voters who were in love with Houston might give Bama more credit since it was a bigger televised game. I think it can be easier for them to say Bama is really good instead of them admitting they over valued Houston (human nature). And Houston was number 1 in BPI. I think we deserve to be higher but I watch all of our games when possible.

Our Achillies heel before last year has typically been inconsistent outside shooting. Last year we rode DK, but this team appears to be a consistently better shooting team (so far), and obviously, the Barnes' standard of top level D is there, along w/ probably more physical inside presence. It appears to me we'll have staying power of a top 10 team this year.

I get how rankings work. They beat a comparably ranked Houston team on a neutral site, that win is not significantly better than UT beating a top 15 Baylor team on a neutral site; combined with two other 20pt wins vs UofL (truly on the road) and UVA. If we were undefeated vs a schedule full of UTM’s of course Bama could and should be ranked above us, but their resume isn’t significantly better (or better at all) than ours. They are there after a loss cause they started at 2. They fell 7 spots for losing to a fellow top 15 team.

Correct. This team can shoot the ball better overall . And now the defense is getting down right nasty again . The SEC being the number one rated conference will bode well also come tourney time. Can’t see us not being anywhere lower than a 3 seed this season and they avoid anymore injuries, will have a strong push for a 1 seed March . It’s goin be a long grind

1 Auburn
2 Kansas
3 TN

Kansas will get plenty of votes for first but I’m guessing Auburn will pass them. Hard to guess the rest. ISU looked good even with the close loss. Bama will move up but I don’t see them passing us with the Purdue loss. It was Houston’s second loss as well.

Louisville wins again, beat West Virginia at Battle 4 Atlantis. Our win over them is going to be a very good boost to our resume.

Louisville throttling ranked Indiana upped our cred a little

Louisville reaches the final of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament with wins over Gonzaga and West Virginia and could face Arizona and Tobe Awaka in the final tomorrow if Arizona beats Oklahoma.
