The Tennessean...
"We are currently tracking fairly comparable to previous years," UT spokeswoman Tiffany Carpenter said. "Our renewals are down a little, but not as much as we anticipated given the current economy."

UT sold 72,855 season-ticket renewals by the May 1 deadline in 2008. This year, 70,785 season tickets were renewed by May 1, a drop of 2,070 tickets.

It could be that some of the fans lost because of tough financial times were replaced by others anxious to witness first-hand the results of big changes on Rocky Top.

New Coach Lane Kiffin and his all-star staff have created an offseason buzz unmatched in recent UT history. School officials suspect they could see a huge spike in first-time season-ticket holders.

Not surprising,, down here the Buccaneers who supposedly had 40,000 waiting list for season tickets had 4,000 seats available. I think the stadium seats 68,000. As James Carville said,, "It's the economy stupid!"

I saw last night where UT said the sales are better than expect, although they are down.

Season ticket renewals might be down a little, but I bet the Western KY and UCLA games will still be sold out.

Anyone care to guess where that number might be if the previous staff were still in place?...
I wouldn't be a new season ticket holder, that's for sure. and I wasn't a negavol or Fulmer basher by any means.

If we had the same exact staff as last year, I don't believe you would see much more than 90,000 at the Western KY game. That might be pushing it. JMO.
I wouldn't have come to this game either.

IMO it's time to buy in. obviously a bad season last year (last few years) but now with the new energetic staff, stadium renovations, new jumbotron... UT stock is on the rise, buy low.

UT will probably have to jack up prices of concessions, etc. to pay for the lost revenues from less season ticket sales.

They won't take that much of a hit from previous years. I would be willing to bet that even with a decent season where the team shows at least a little improvement, almost every seat will be filled for every game (for sure the WKU and UCLA games which otherwise probably wouldn't have sold out.)
