His salary is prorated for the season. $ 115,000 for seven games is not a bad payday.

So he's not getting the $1.35m reported earlier.

He gets 7/82 of 1.35 million. I read it from a Cleveland sports columnist. Contract is structured to trade him during off season to another team who will cut him and then it clears cap room for Cavs. Good news for Hopson is $115,000 for 7 games.
NBA has strange rules for trades. $115,000 is guaranteed money. Second year is not guaranteed thus making him attractive to other teams in a trade. They can trade for him, but if does not make team they can cut him at no cost.

So, basically, he needs to somehow average 20 a game to get signed at all or just be cap space.

Maybe not as high as 20 ppg, but to contribute and put up decent stats would be my guess. Show he belongs.

I was watching the Magic/Cavs game the other night , they said Scotty got a sweet deal . Like 1.3 million just to finish the season which was like just 8 games . He also got like 2.4 million for next season as well . Next year is a team option though so he may not get that

Scotty will be paid $1.35 M for 7 games

Come June, a team can then trade a player with a high salary to Cleveland and Cleveland will use Scotty and others as part of the trade package. When that team cuts the no guaranteed salaries, it will open up cap room at the value of the non guaranteed salary for that year. In Scotty's case, $1.45 M.

The new team can now bundle those contract savings and go after a free agent or higher draft pick that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to beforehand due to cap restrictions.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to put themselves in position to make a major trade around June's NBA draft, sources told ESPN.com.

To help facilitate it, the team made an unorthodox but strategic move Monday by signing point guard Scotty Hopson to a two-year, $3.8 million contract. Hopson has never played in an NBA game but will get a check for $1.35 million just for the Cavs' final seven games of the regular season, sources said.

The Cavs are interested in Hopson, a 6-foot-7 University of Tennessee product who went undrafted in 2011, as a prospect after he played well in Turkey this season. But this move is also aimed at expanding the team's options in June and July.

Team owner Dan Gilbert approved the last-minute spending in an effort to set his team up to be hunters over the summer. It's the second significant move made by acting general manager David Griffin, who traded for Spencer Hawes at the trade deadline.

The second year of Hopson's deal, worth $1.45 million, is nonguaranteed. The Cavs now have a stockpile of nonguaranteed or partially guaranteed contracts that could be attractive in trades around June's draft."

Nah, he just watched Martin coach and finally figured to buy into what Pearl taught him.

Which would be??? Sorry but I'd say he's learned more in the last 3 years than he ever did at UT under Pearl. Otherwise he'd be in the league.
