I am hearing from a couple of different people that Scott Edgar's name is being tossed around for a couple of head coaching positions, one being Murray State. Anybody got any info/insight on this?

I know he was very successful at Murray State. He left there and went to Duquesne, where he didn't have a good run. I'd be interested to see if he was interested in going back to the mid-major level as a head coach. Murray State is the bellweather program in the OVC.

Also, I would think he would wait and see what happens with Mike Anderson. If he gets the Mizzou job, I'd think Coach Edgar would be a candidate for the Blazers.

It is interesting. Murray State has proven it can be a springboard for coaches to get a bigger job.

Can't see him going back to Murray State again.

SE Mo. State is an opening he might be more inclined to explore, per the Pennington KNS blog.

Hatvol has a great point about UAB.

Hope he stays. I've talked to him a few times and he seems like a really good guy.

Yep, SE Mo State is the other job.

I with ya, I hope he stays.

Unless he's just set on being a head coach again right now, I think an assistant's job at UT is a better position than running the show at SEMO.

I agree. However, turning a team like SEMO around would open a lot of eyes. A lot more than continuing the tradition at Murray. I think a guy like Edgar would succeed at both schools. It would take a little time at SEMO. Poor Murray, they are on the verge of being the next Creighton, Wichita St, etc. but they can't get a coach to stay more than 2-3 years.

I'm with you UT folk. As a Tenn Tech grad and b-ball fan I hope Edgar stays right where he is at.

Both he and Coach Jones will have their names thrown in alot of pots but CBP has said that they want to stick around and see him through for a little bit longer and that they will be patient and wait for the right job to come along.

Not being critical, but Dana Altman has been at Creighton for 10+ years. But your point is well taken. Tulsa, with Richardson, Smith, Robinson, Self, and Peterson is a great example of a school that consistently lost coaches. Not sure losing Buzz was a bad thing, but it did finally catch up with them.

Looks like we'll find out if UAB would consider Coach Edgar. Reports have Mike Anderson being named the coach at Mizzou.

Is Steve Alford completely off everybody's radar and doomed to stay at Iowa?

He certainly should be. There just isn't much to indicate he can win big at the highest level of college hoops. His biggest NCAA tournament win was over UT and Jerry Green when he was at SMS. That should only count as half a win, given his coaching opponent. He has won 1 NCAA tournament game in his entire tenure at Iowa. I wouldn't be so sure he's that safe at Iowa. Now that Brunner, Horner, etc. are graduating, he might find the going real tough in Iowa City.

I never understood the media's infatuation with Alford supposedly going to Indiana. To me he's Mike Davis except he lettered at Indiana.

Well, as a huge Bob Knight fan who used to follow IU religiously, Alford did a little more than letter at IU. He was a high school legend, then led the Hoosiers to the title in '87. That said, he's nothing great as a coach. It would be a nice story for a while, then the folks in southern Indiana would realize he just doesn't win enough. I think they should hire Tom Crean or Randy Wittman.

per the Birmingham News this morning, Scott Edgar will be on UAB's list of candidates if Anderson takes the Mizou job. HOWEVER, per reports out of St. Louis, it appears there is a meeting at 12:30 today in which Mizou will consider firing their Athletic Director. They have also mentioned letting Anderson out of his commitment if that happens. If Anderson is indeed hired at Mizzou, UAB will be an outstanding opportunity for Edgar. UAB has 4 20+ wins since Anderson took over and have been to the NCAA 3 times, the NIT once during Anderson's tenure. Keep in mind that Anderson is from Birmingham and his duaghter is a sophmore to be at Hoover HS where Sid Spencer played ball. I don't think Anderson is quite the done deal yet.

Well Mike Anderson is gone from UAB... the three Names on the list are a current assistant on UABs staff, Scott Edgar, and Mike Davis (He is an Alabama native)

Gregg Doyel adds Bobby Lutz to that list.

that would be a big loss to lose a coach of his calibur. He left UAB last year to coach here didnt he? So I dont know if they'd hire a guy thats already left their school once.

I think UAB realizes what kind of school it is... I mean with the right choices they pick coaches that are going to leave... thats just how it is..... Would he turn down a head coaching job... The sw here in bham says the list includes LSUs coach which i find absolutely crazy

I think they mean LSU assistant John Treloar, who I've heard mentioned as a candidate.

Kevin Scarbinsky needs to adjust his medication if he thinks John Brady would consider UAB.

Believe it or not, if Anderson had taken the UT job, Brady would have applied at UAB. There's something strange going on behind the scene at LSU. Brady has lots of contacts in Birmingham where he lived for several years as HC of Samford. But I agree, Scarface needs to take his meds. What a piece of crap he is as a sports writer.

This morning there was an article in the local newspaper that was an interview with Edgar. He said he's sending in his resume and definitely wants the job. The interim AD mandates that he will only hire a coach that runs the same type of strategy as Anderson. Under those circumstances it would not surprise me if the finalists are Edgar, Chris Giles (current AC for Anderson and former UAB player), and out of nowhere, Nolan Richardson.

If he actually wants to coach again, Nolan would be a perfect choice. I know Brady coached at Samford, I just don't believe he'd leave LSU now. Last year, he was catching heat. It might have made at least a little sense then to jump before being pushed. However, there would be no logic behind it now.
