I've seen this come up a lot lately with some highly sought after recruits. Alabama, Auburn, FSU and Tennessee. Who would have thought 2 years ago that we would consistently be making the cut with the likes of National Championship contenders from the previous two years.

Sure, we aren't landing all of them. But the progress Butch has made so quickly will lead to good things. What an exciting time to be a vol!

*In effort to make this thread a conversation, let's discuss the benefits of coming to UT over some of these other schools. Somethings like the weight room get lots of love, but what are the trinkets that get over looked?

I would. We always have. Just because we had a couple (ok, more than a few) down years, does not mean we just suddenly became forever irrelevant. As I've seen stated on here quite a bit, "It's all cyclicle". I knew we would be back, just wasn't sure how long it would take. 2 more years with Butch and his recruiting, we'll be fine.

GBO!!

Honestly, I think it really is all about relationships in most cases. Really making an effort to show them you care, because at the end of the day the coaches are making a lasting impact on these young men. They're teachers at the very heart of it. And I want to believe that many of these coaches want to make a positive impact on people. If you can get the right chemistry, and truly believe what you preach, it makes a lasting impression on these kids that many want to be a part of.

Still a special place.

Absolutely. I think the shame of the past few years has made some Vol fans think the shine is off UT. That couldn't be more incorrect.

When I talk CFB with people here in Arizona, the name 'Tennessee' generates a lot of respect and recognition that few other schools can match.

I talked to a former player he works with my dad and he said when he was being recruited by fulmer that it just felt like home to him, said that why he stayed here after he graduated said he loved this place. Not just the coaches but he said he met a lot of great people that just made him feel welcomed every where he went. So I guess what I'm saying is it just feels like home to a lot of recruits.

It's hard to compete with Tuskaloosa, a town that gets remodeled every three years courtesy of Mother Nature. They also have a deli that gives cuts of payola to athletes.

Tallahassee also has its charms as they don't prosecute star athletes as long as they win.

And at Auburn toilet paper grows on trees. Dexter Manley graduated from Auburn and was illiterate. So that tells me curriculum is not as tough...Perhaps they use cartoons or storyboards or something.

All we have is the Tennessee River for skiing, fishing, tailgating, beautiful mountains for hiking, hunting, skiing and camping. Moonshine, Jack Daniels, moderate climate, fairly good roads, relatively safe city, not too big, not too small, low cost of living, largest football stadium in South ...for now and rabid BIG ORANGE fans. We also have great business an aerospace programs, among others.
