and your WTF moment of the day

School says deaf boy's name sign looks too much like a gun

The Grand Island (Neb.) school district is forcing a 3-year-old deaf boy to change the way he signs his name, because they say his gestures violate their weapons policy. Preschooler Hunter Spanjer's personalized name sign is a registered sign with Signing Exact English -- a modified form of American Sign Language -- and involves extended index fingers that the district says resembles a gun.

And here go the completely random, unwarranted shots over the partisan wall.

Not a lot of liberals in Nebraska...
It's not exactly a leap of logic.

Not a lot of conservatives worried about how sign language might encourage gun violence.

That truly is stupid dipped stupid with stupid filling. Judging from what the little guy is doing in the picture wouldn't "pointing" in general cross that line?

they're basically telling the kid to change his name at 3yo. Absolutely insane

the school systems are filled with liberals.

the elementary school I went to wouldn't encourage students to wash their hands after using the bathroom because, as the school principle informed my mother, "It's against some cultures' beliefs and religion to wash hands, so we can't ask students to do that"

To borrow a pj quote from another thread, stupid at this level has no party (or political) affiliation

Can't teach these VN political extremists anything about reason. Every thread is just another excuse to hurl insults at the other party.

Meh, bit of a double standard but it's just the crowd here. I stopped caring long ago. Makes things easier, and for more humorous reading.

I would remove my child from that school system entirely, I would not let my child learn there if they won't even let him sign his own name. F T.

What kind of people find a 3 year old who makes a gun gesture with his hand to be threatening?

Liberals. I am a bit of a liberal, and can see where they're coming from.

Can you imagine if your kid went to this school, how traumatizing that would be to see him essentially emulating a mass shooting every day in class?

This child should be imprisoned. Try him as an adult!

There's a reason there are so many absurd and ridiculous policies at schools these days.

Thinking about making this thread a compendium called "The Ann Coulter Book Club (look what the liberals did this week)"

No, that would only be the case if he was pointing them at people and making BANG! noises.

In fact, I'd like to point out that, even at only 3yo, he knows how to keep his name pointed in a safe direction. :p

I'm surprised the adults let me play army as a kid and used those fake guns. Don't they know I could have offended someone!?!?

As long as everyone's just going to make random political assumptions, I'll assume there are not many liberals on a small town Midwestern school board. Furthermore, I'll say this is something a school board would do to protect itself from a lawsuit, a very conservative action. See? It's fun to just make crap up as you go. Stupid is just stupid.
